My DH is in basic right now and I'm going to get my military id tomorrow. For the life of me I can't remember what he said about cards for tricare. Do I need to go to the office and get insurance cards...or do they send them to you? If so how long does it take?
Thank you in advance
Re: Tricare quesiton for a newbie :)
You don't sign up for Standard and you don't get a card for it. Your military id is your insurance card. You do have to sign up for Prime and you get a Tricare card. They'll send it to you in the mail in a few weeks.
Like others said you are automatically signed up for Standard. You can switch to Prime, I personally opted to stick with Standard since I already had established care providers. Your husband husband's medical care is separate from yours. He doesn't get a choice in his coverage, who he sees, or even if he can take a sick day. That part takes a little adjustment.
I stuck with standard since i live 2 hours away from a military base. Most of the health care providers know to look for the military ID card...to forwarn you, i had to explain to a few nurses that my ID was the insurance card haha
