  • 1. What do you do for a living? I'm Lois Lane ... if Lois Lane covered charity events and school-board meetings.
    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work? Yep, I have a B.A. Communication with emphasis in journalism.
    3. What is one thing you love about your job? Coming up with my own story ideas and then doing them. This self-governing thing is fabulous (and a totally new concept to me since I was essentially chained to a desk for eight hours a day in my previous life).
    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job? I prefer to work for a boss that is smarter/more experienced than me. And that's all I'll say.
    5. How long is your commute? 15 seconds from bed to couch. I work at home, but I am out covering stuff a lot.
    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had? My 4.5 years as a copy editor at The Seattle Times. It was my dream job.
    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job? Before I wanted to be Lois Lane, I wanted to be a soap-opera star, but then I realized my hair wouldn't fit into the camera frame.
    8. What is your dream job now? Best-selling author. I'm working on it. ;)
    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you? I actually would still work. I love journalism too much.
    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world? How to cut a story in half in two minutes on deadline.

    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work? yesish - I majored in both elementary ed and biology
    3. What is one thing you love about your job? summers off!
    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job? taking work home all.the.time. and never feeling finished

    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had? probably this one, although having a work-study bartending job at the Seattle Rep had some great perks (tips, free ticket exchange with multiple theaters, etc.)
    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job? either a flight attendant or a marine biologist
    8. What is your dream job now? I'd like to have a job doing research, curriculum development, and teaching at a marine science facility
    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you? probably not - I feel much more centered and balanced with a job
    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world? hatching/raising chickens and salmon, building mini sod houses, baking cookies in a solar oven, play directing, parent coaching, bookbinding, fixing overhead projectors and staplers...

  • 1. What do you do for a living?  I work in reservations for an airline
    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work?  absolutely  not. 
    3. What is one thing you love about your job?  I get to work from home and fly for free!

    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had? Favorite *real* job was Student Loan advisor in Nebraska, favorite job period was Flix Cafe &Market at WSU.

    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you?  Damn straight!
    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world?  at one point i knew everything there was to know about student financial aid, i probably am a little rusty now though cause the rules change so often.

  • 1. What do you do for a living? I'm an account manager at a global logistics company. I help to analyze and manage my accounts' supply chains.
    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work? Yep. Degree was in International Business, so that worked out nicely.
    3. What is one thing you love about your job? I love the independence given in this position. It's up to me to make sure my clients are happy and we are growing their business.
    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job? The flip side of the independence in the job is that there isn't a lot of guidance sometimes, or clear communication of expectations.
    5. How long is your commute? 35 min in the morning, 45 min in the evening.
    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had? I worked at a sign company in high school that was run by family friends. They were the best bosses ever, I had such a blast. 
    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job? Dolphin trainer!
    8. What is your dream job now? That's a great question. Probably still dolphin trainer.
    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you? Heck yes, but I would find other things to do. Volunteer, travel, etc.
    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world? I started with my company as a "runner," literally running documents around to and from and all over Seattle, and as a result, I know all the streets and good parking spots downtown. Comes in super handy when I'm down there for a happy hour.

  • 1. What do you do for a living? Digital Producer (project manager) for websites and online games
    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work? Sort of.  I have a Marketing degree.
    3. What is one thing you love about your job? Working on fun projects
    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job? Demanding clients
    5. How long is your commute? about an hour.  Slow buses!
    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had? Probably this one, even though it's stressful.
    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job? I wanted to work in advertising like Angela from Who's The Boss and the guys from Bosom Buddies.
    8. What is your dream job now? What I'm doing now but part time and less stress
    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you? I would definitely do something.  At least volunteer if nothing else.

    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work? n/a
    3. What is one thing you love about your job? The benefits and most of my coworkers.
    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job? Dealing with PITA customers who don't know how to use the self checkout machines and can't read.
    5. How long is your commute? 5 minutes. I live a half a mile away.
    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had? This is the only job I have ever had.
    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job? At one point I wanted to be a vet but couldn't deal with blood. Then it was a music teacher but I wasn't good enough at it to do it.
    8. What is your dream job now? Well right now its just to go back to work. I've been off since the beginning of March and I'm going crazy. I really don't have a dream job. But it would probably be something that was part time so I could stay home with my kids most of the time.
    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you? I would stay home in a heartbeat. I would probably find something to volunteer for to keep me busy when the kids were at school.
    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world? How to 10 key. I couldn't for the life of me do it before now I can do it in my sleep.

    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work?  My last 2 degrees, yes.  My first degree, no.

    3. What is one thing you love about your job?  Helping families find their way after they receive life-changing news.

    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job?  It can be pretty emotional.  Hard to leave 'at work'.


    5. How long is your commute?  About 15 minutes.

    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had?  The one(s) I have now.

    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you?  Nope.  I love working, what I do, and the people I work with.  I'd likely work less and do some other non-profit type stuff on the side.

    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world?  I can change a diaper on a squirmy kid like nobody's business.

    3. What is one thing you love about your job? The fast pace, I get bored easily.

    5. How long is your commute? 50 mins each way, including daycare drop off
    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had? I think my current job.  I LOVE where I'm at.
    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job? teacher or flight attendant
    8. What is your dream job now? I think I have it actually. If I could work part time, that would be perfect.

    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world? I'm a freaking math and excel wizard now.  This from a girl who had to flunked algebra and trigonometry in HS.  :)

  • 1. What do you do for a living? Sales. Of wholesale baked goods. Basically I make cakes, cupcakes and cookies etc.

    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work? N/a

    3. What is one thing you love about your job? Traveling!

    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job? While I love the flexibility,not being sure I will be home for various events is frustrating.

    5. How long is your commute? hmm, 2 seconds to roll over and check email....10 seconds to downstairs to my office in my jammies.....and 105 miles round trip to the airport.

    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had? Personal trainer at the Y....fun, and so helpful to stay busy to get over a breakup with the ex.

    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job? I always wanted to be a lawyer..no idea why!

    8. What is your dream job now? Graphic designer

    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you? Nope...I like working.

    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world? Its not random in my field, but I can ice and fully decorate a cake in less than 5 minutes flat.

  • 1. What do you do for a living?  CAD drafter for a fedral contractor
    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work?  Yes - mostly.  I started as an engineering student and got side tracked because I loved drafting
    3. What is one thing you love about your job?  watching a project come together starting with one line and resulting in a very complex project that someone actually builds
    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job?  I'm working for a giant (45,000 employees) company.  I've always worked for small (<50 employees) companies and with the economy in the dumper, I'm stuck where I'm at even if I don't like it much.  On top of that, they're SUUUUPER slow right now,  I spend most of my week twiddling my thumbs.
    5. How long is your commute? 60 minutes on average
    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had?  I've loved most of them - from pizza delivery to nanny to my current career (14 years and going strong)
    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job? I was going to grow up to be a doctor - an OB/GYN specifically.  I was even pre-med for 2 years before I realized it wasn't something I wanted to do 40++ hours a week.
    8. What is your dream job now?  Some combination of drafting part time (maybe for myself) and stay at home mom.
    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you?  Probably not.  I'm working hard towards retirement
    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world?  hmmm...getting along with difficult co-workers? Does that count?  I've never turned down a task, even if I didn't have the skills.  I am VERY resourceful and can do just about anything...

  • 1. What do you do for a living? I am an Admissions Adviser/Recruiter for UW Tacoma

    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work? Yep!  Sort of!  I talk about my college experience and college choice process on almost a daily basis.  I don't feel I would be qualified to speak about college if I had never attended.  I was a comm major, so that helps too.

    3. What is one thing you love about your job? I feel like I give people hope and help people see their potential on a daily basis.  That is very gratifying.  I also work with a ton of first generation students and they are so grateful for any help I can give them.

    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job? hanging out in high school cafeterias is high on my list and giving people bad news some times.  Not everyone gets admitted to college.

    5. How long is your commute? Depends on the day...but usually about 30-35 minutes each way

    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had? I worked 9 seasons with the Seattle SuperSonics on their game night media relations staff and it was a ton of fun!

    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job? I wanted to be a secretary when I was little...dream big, right!?!  Ha!  And then in high school I wanted to work in Media Relations for an NBA Basketball team (than I got my gig and realized it was a thankless position)

    8. What is your dream job now? Realistically, to be Director of Recruitment at a small, urban college campus :) or have Pinwheel Lane go big and run a party planning business/venue with some cool ladies!

    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you? Nope.  Staying home is REALLY hard for me.  I would have to find something, although I think it would be part-time or maybe while the kid's are in school.

    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world? I know all about crazy majors and different careers...I am a life coach too most days!  Also, I can name LOTS of high school mascots and tell you about some tiny towns in Washington!

    1. What do you do for a living? Currently, I am doing freelance graphic design work, but soon (fingers crossed), I will be teaching on top of doing freelance graphic design work. 
    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work? For design, I use my first degree (Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art). For teaching, I use my Master's in Ed and my Bachelor of Arts degree, so YES!
    3. What is one thing you love about your job? I love that I get to be creative, both in and out of the classroom. Like Allie, I get bored easily. Neither teaching, nor GD allow for boredom! I also love the breaks during the school year; all holidays, winter break, mid-winter break, spring break, and summer.
    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job? I love everything about GD, the one thing that I don't like about teaching is the volume of paperwork that accumulates during the week.   
    5. How long is your commute? Right now, 10 steps from the kitchen; 20 steps from the bedroom, 25 steps from the bathroom. Who knows what it will be come fall. The farthest school I have applied to is in Bellevue.
    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had? 7th grade Humanities teacher at a private middle school.
    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job? Marine Biologist.
    8. What is your dream job now? Middle school History or Art teacher.
    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you? I would be a SAHM and have 5 kids. I wouldn't even think about work ever again! (Well, at least not until my youngest was school age.)
    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world? That if you put a sticker (on a large-scale map) in the places where an earthquake occured, every time an earthquake occurs, by the end of the year a ring will appear around the Pacific Rim. That is why the region in called "The Ring of Fire." This is also the area with the largest accumulation of active volcanoes and seismic activity.

    1. What do you do for a living?   Im a BCBA (Behavior analyst) working with children with autism
    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work?  yup.  Bachelors in ec/elem ed; M.S.Ed. in Intensive special Needs, and post grad behavior analysis work.

What is one thing you love about your job?   I LOVE the truly lifelong relationships with families and seeing their children make progress.   I have former clients (who I saw in early intervention, the youngest being 15 months...) on my FB page...  I have families i have serviced 12-15 years ago i am still watching progress and learn...  
    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job?   commuting all over puget sound...
    5. How long is your commute?   depends on where I am going...  anywhere from queen anne, to ft lewis, puyallup, b;vue, gig harbor...  I provide supervision and consultation in homes and schools/./
    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had?   LOVE early intervention...  love working IN schools...
    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job?   I wanted to be a NICU Dr.

What is your dream job now?   I'm doing it!   I just started my OWN consulting group, which is slowly growing, as I hire staff...   dream would be to have a center base preschool/school for children with autism, and that families could actually get the 25-40 recomended hours of intervention a week covered by insurance...
    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you?   Nope.  I love my job...  I need the balance.   I would ideally see kiddos and families 2 days a week... then volunteer in my kids school, have some me time
    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world?   Im with Fu, I can change a diaper like no ones biz.   I have impressed many a friend changing a BM on a standing kid in the back of a car without blinking an eye.   :)    Its a useful skill.

    I am still in awe of this. And try as I might, i never really got it down.

    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work? I went to a trade school so does that count. I've done all the nursing prereqs and that helps out too. My kids are too busy to allow me to keep going at the moment. Boo!
    3. What is one thing you love about your job? I love the kids I work with and the organization I work for is AWESOME!
    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job? It is full time with no option of part time. 
    5. How long is your commute? 40-45 minutes
    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had? Working at the Starbucks at Pike Place market and having people throw cups at me while I made coffee. I also like the one I have now. 
    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job? To be a pop singer
    8. What is your dream job now? Peds nurse/L&D nurse
    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you? No I wouldn't. My kids have full schedules and between all the running around with them and keeping up with my house, that itself is a full time job.
    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world? How to make fantastic coffee. I know more about coffee then the average person.

    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work? Yup
    3. What is one thing you love about your job? Emotionally rewarding.  Seeing a child learn to read is AMAZING.
    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job? Emotionally taxing. Lack of time, resources, patience, etc.  It all adds up.
    5. How long is your commute? 10-15 minutes, but I have to drop L off at DC and get my coffee at *$.
    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had? Definitely this one. 
    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job? I wanted to be a model.  It looked glamorous and easy.
    8. What is your dream job now? I have it!
    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you? Probably not, I would just buy more things for my classroom!
    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world? My skills don't apply to most people.... how to make a copy in under a minute and grab a mug of tea because you need to pick up your class from recess.... ;)

    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you? I would not work while our kids are young but once they get into school I would want to work part time

    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work? Kind of.  I was a history major in college and I did a lot of research, and research is part of my job. 
    3. What is one thing you love about your job? It's in a pretty obscure field of law and, as such, I work for nerds. 
    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job? The passive-aggressive crap. 
    5. How long is your commute? about an hour each direction
    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had? Working at a movie theater

  • 1. What do you do for a living?  I'm actually about to start a new job next week.  Right now I'm a project manager with a focus on clinical research, but my new job is in health care administration (specifically strategic planning and business development).

    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work?  My master's degree is in Health Administration so I use that.  My undergrad is in chemistry so I don't really use that.  It turns out that klutziness and lab work don't mix well.

    3. What is one thing you love about your job?  For my current job: flexibility and a great place to work

    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job?  My work seems pretty unimportant and has little sense of urgency. 

    5. How long is your commute?  45 minutes in the morning.  1 hour in the evening.

    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had?  Probably my last job as a Contracts Manager at the same organization.

    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job?  I always had a hard time deciding what to do when I grew up.

    8. What is your dream job now?  Hopefully my new job :)

    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you?  I would definitely quit working.  Instead I'd volunteer and donate money to charities.

    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world?  I worked for a canoe and kayak shop in high school and college, so I can sell you one.  Of course all my knowledge is over a decade old.

    8. What is your dream job now? I'd like to have a job doing research, curriculum development, and teaching at a marine science facility

    I have a friend who works as a marine biologist studying whales and other marine mammals in the area.  It IS a pretty good job.  If you ever need a guest speaker for class she's your gal.  It was a crazy hard field for her to get into!

  • 1. What do you do for a living? Health educator/policy specialist in public health, working in tobacco prevention and control/physical activity and nutrition.
    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work? Yep, my MPH for sure.
    3. What is one thing you love about your job? Working on policy and environmental changes that can potentially improve lives for years to come. And that it's part-time.
    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job? The constant funding issues of the past three years and never knowing how much longer said job will exist!
    5. How long is your commute? About 20 minutes most days, 30 if there's traffic.
    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had? Probably this one.
    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job? I thought I wanted to be a doctor until I realized I have no tolerance for even talking about blood or needles.
    8. What is your dream job now? Something similar to what I have now but working solely on the physical activity/nutrition side of things.
    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you? Probably, at least for a few years, but volunteer.
    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world? How to politely turn down offers to sell me drugs (in a previous job involving home visiting in some sketchy neighborhoods).

  • 1. What do you do for a living? Attorney
    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work? I use my JD but not my undergrad.  I used my undergrad in my previous job.
    3. What is one thing you love about your job? The people.
    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job?  The people!
    5. How long is your commute? Depends on what time I head to the office.  It can be between 30m to 45m.
    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had? Buyer for a fortune 500 retail company. It was fast paced, exciting, and the people I worked with were awesome. 
    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job? Pop Singer! Ha!
    8. What is your dream job now?  Retired, oh wait is that considered a job?  I think playing all that golf could be a job!
    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you? No, I would dabble in something.  I get bored too easily.
    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world?  I can tell you all about home improvement goods, and now I am a walking medical dictionary!

  • 1. What do you do for a living? 911 Dispatcher
    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work? Nope.
    3. What is one thing you love about your job? It's part time, so I can work my minimum hours for the month and never think about working more (if I don't want to), plus the pay is pretty good for a part time position.
    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job? The chairs are not comfortable, not one of them.
    5. How long is your commute? 10 min without daycare drop off, 30 with daycare dropoff.
    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had? Working as a bartender in Alaska.
    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job? Lawyer.....what was I thinking.
    8. What is your dream job now? Restaurant owner.
    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you? Yes.
    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world? I know how to make crack cocaine. I haven't ever done it, but I was given the recipe and how to during a training session for my job.

    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work? Not one little bit.
    3. What is one thing you love about your job? Feeling like I'm putting technology into place that's useful and relevent.
    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job? A boss that sometimes forgets to let me do my job so I can help him do his job.
    5. How long is your commute? From the time I drop off at day care, 1 hour (5 - 10 minutes to the train station, 5 - 10 minutes waiting for the train, 25 minute train ride, 5 minute walk to work)
    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had? Contract English teacher
    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job? An attorney
    8. What is your dream job now? An elementary school teacher
    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you? IF we could retire comfortably, help our children through school and continue our current standard of living, you betcha.
    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world? How to speak Korean (which I've forgotten....it's been a long time).

    I am still in awe of this. And try as I might, i never really got it down.

  • 1. What do you do for a living? Interior Designer, specialize in Kitchen and Bath remodels.

    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work? Yep
    3. What is one thing you love about your job? Working with all different personalities. No two clients are the same and I love that.
    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job? Pricing projects and writing contracts. Sooooo boring! Sleep
    5. How long is your commute? 5 minutes. I live less than a mile from the showroom.
    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had? My current job...hands down
    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job? For a really long I wanted to be a Marine Biologist. When I got older I realized how much Science that involved I quickly rethought my choice.
    8. What is your dream job now? To be an independent Designer so I can make my own hours and do things the way I want to do them.
    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you? No I would keep working. I would still want to do projects here and there (not full time). I really love the interaction I get with clients. I really get to know them and their families and I would miss that.
    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world? I could install and plumb your sink and faucet for you if you need me. Stick out tongue

  • 1. What do you do for a living? DIrector for a consulting company.  I work in employee benefit

    3. What is one thing you love about your job? I'm pretty good at it.  I meet interesting people and learn something every day

    4.What is one thing you don't love about your job? almost everyone I work with.  I work for a small company and I really wish I had a larger support network and a larger pool of people to work with

    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world? I know way too much about employee benefit practices, what is legal and what isn't.

  • 1. What do you do for a living? Admin assistant (office manager) at a local university.
    2. College grads, do you use your degree in your line of work?  I'm about to finish my BA (6 weeks!!)  And sort of...  There are more opportunities for advancement, but do I really need a BA to do what I do?  Nope.
    3. What is one thing you love about your job?  Dress code!  I wear jeans to work most days.  LOVE that.
    4. What is one thing you don't love about your job?  Bureaucracy.  
    5. How long is your commute?  26 miles.  Driving it's anywhere from 45-75 mins depending on traffic or taking the train.
    6. What is your favorite job you have ever had?  Wedding photography (either shooting or assisting)
    7. When you were a kid, what was your dream job?  Teacher
    8. What is your dream job now?  Taking my photography FT and being home with my kids.
    9. If you could afford to never work again, would you?  Yup.
    10. What's a random skill you have learned in the working world?  No idea.  One of my faculty members today told me she thought I'd make a good personal assistant.  Something about the combo/variety of skills I have. :)
