Regardless of if you BF or FF, how does the night time work at your house? My DH sleeps like a boulder and doesn't wake up when DS cries, when I get out of bed, when I go back to bed, nothing. How involved is your DH during the night? I don't complain because DH is still going to work and with driving and standing in intersections/on the side of the highway/etc. his sleep is rather important for his safety at work. I just wonder how many DH's are taking an active roll in the middle of the night.
Re: How does night time work at your house?
My DH only takes an active role if he has the next day off of work. He works for a corrections agency that contracts with Homeland Security, so for him, it is also important that he gets his sleep because of safety issues at work.
He usually wakes up whenever she cries but starts to go right back to sleep- unless he is off the next day. If he is off the next day I tell him to go get LO every other time she cries. Sometimes we work it out so he sleeps from 9:00pm-5:00am and I sleep from 2:00ish on- an early shift and a late shift. I'm pumping, so he can give her bottles if she is hungry. However, I can't sleep much longer than 4 1/2 hours anyway, because I become engorged and it wakes me up.
DH SOMETIMES puts her to bed, but after he goes to bed, he's out till morning. It bothered me at first, but not so much anymore. He works a lot and drives 30 miles one way to work with long days and few days off, so he does need his sleep. If I've had a bad night, he'll take her in the morning when he gets up and feed her. Other then that, I'm on my own.
(I switch back and forth between bf and formula)
Funny you should ask...when I met DH SS was 3 and still had a monitor in his room and DH was up at every peep to check on him. I came along and he relaxed and now sleeps like a rock! Granted I take DD to the living room when she wakes up to nurse and half the time we end up asleep in there for the second half of the night, but I don't think DH even realizes when we come in for bed. This weekend I set DD in the RNP while DH was sleeping so I could go to the bathroom only to come out to her screaming with him happily sleeping 6 ft away! In his defense he works and I bf and am a SAHM, but I have to get up and take care of 2 kids every morning before he even gets up for work (darn daylight coming earlier so SS thinks it's time to get up at 6!).
I have decided that since I have a freezer stash now, as a present to me I think Mother's Day weekend I'm putting him on night duty in the living room while I take over the bed
DH really wants to switch nights. But I'm not too keen on pumping that much. Plus I think I would be up worried anyway.
Usually I just get up when I hear him on the monitor, usually before DH can, feed him and put him back down-usually takes about 10 minutes. That way it doesn't interupt DH's sleep.
Usually when he gets up for the day (LO, not DH) I make DH go get him and he does the first diaper change of the day.
On Friday and Saturday's I will give DH a bottle so he can do the first feeding as well.
DH tried to put him down tonight, but it didn't work, so he put him in his swing.

DH gets up for feedings (we bottle feed) on the weekends and holidays. He drives a bus for a living, and gets up at 5:30am everyday for work, so during the week it's important for him to be alert so I do all the nighttime feedings M-F.
DH also goes to bed early during the work week, and DD doesn't go to sleep until 11pm/midnight, so I'm alone most evenings as well.

My Dh helps out a lot at night. I figure it's fair though because he travels for work and gets a few nights a week of solid uninterrupted sleep.
I'm pumping/formula/and breastfeeding so at night when she wakes up - he'll take her change her diaper. I'll warm a bottle for her. He'll take her and feed her while I pump. Then I'll get her back to sleep. It works for us.
