Ideal temperature range for baby nursery?

What temperature range should the baby's nursery/home fall between.  I was reading 68F to 72F.  What is everyone else hearing?

Re: Ideal temperature range for baby nursery?

  • This says 68-72 in winter, 75-78 in summer. We'll probably let it be a little cooler  (65-ish) at night by next winter and just put him in appropriate sleepwear. For summer, 78 and light clothes seems reasonable.

  • I don't mean to hijack, but for those of us who don't have an AC, how will you keep the temp comfy for baby?

we do not have a heat pump but we do have a celing fan in each room, it seems to do the job very well.  but also our summers are not super super hot in the northwest.

I am in the northwest too :) Thankfully it doesn't get too hot, but I know for at least a couple weeks it gets pretty warm and I worry about what to do. I have a fan but I am always confused because some say not to have a fan blowing on the baby.

this is my second baby, our pedi said it is actually fine it helps circulate the air, just not when they are sick (obviously) I am a SAHM so durring the day I keep all the doors and windows open and and by nighttime when we shut them the house stays cool, my daughter has never been too hot or too cold, in the winter we just use our fireplace and it works great.

  • I'm not worried too much about the temperature.  We'll be dressing him appropriately, of course, but there's no way that we can maintain anything under 78-80 inside when it is 98 outside (and only getting down to 88 or so at night!).  Keep in mind that kids are born all over the world and they're not dying of heat stroke because they don't have AC.
  • Just keep your house at whatever temp you'd normally have it at and dress the baby appropriately for the season/temp/weather. Our house is usually in the 68-70 range, but because of our wonky HVAC system, there are rooms that run hotter/cooler than what the thermostat is set at.

I have a tower-style HEPA air purifier going in the kids' room at night and during naps to both circulate the air and provide white noise, which keeps my daughter sleeping better.

  • I almost didn't open this post because I don't have A/C. I don't even have a thermostat. I thought this post was going to make sad that I don't. I am glad that I did open it though because you all are making me feel better.

I am just going to do my best. It gets to be in the high 90's here for a couple of weeks each summer so I am not sure how that will go but at least we have fans. I think we'll be having a lot of naked baby time this summer. :D

  • I was actually going to post this question--so thank you!

We have 3 zones in our house; so the baby's room will be a different zone than ours. I would love to get ceiling fans in the bedrooms, but that will probably saved as a project for next year.

We get the muggy, humid summers here-I am not looking forward to pay for the electric this summer.

  • 68-72....is what the pedi always told us for year round.

My DD was born in July...so we kept her room around 73/74

  • We have AC but the rooms upstairs are super hot.  We got a ceiling fan and have a therm. in the room and it has helped tremendously.  We didn't have any light in the room before, so after hiring the electrician, it ran us about $200 with the fan.  Worth it.
