Breastfeeding

Hyperlactation & Overactive letdown?

Anyone have experience with this? I know this problem came to be because I was pumping to supplement since DD was a preemie but I did it for too long.  I've been block feeding for the last couple days but my left side still has a lot of milk and it's very difficult to feed her on that side.  Has anyone had any experience with this? Did it get better? Also, she spits up sooo much afterwards.  Did that get better?

Re: Hyperlactation & Overactive letdown?

  • awww love your DDs name. I have a Gisele too~!

I wish i could say mine got better. It didn't. i tried and tried and tried to get her on the breast- but due to both issues- I wound up EPing/pumping the entire year.

block nursing helps a lot of people- can you grab a burp cloth and have your first let down into the cloth and then get her to latch- so the force of the first let down is less afterwards? GL

  • Gisele is a great name. She gets a lot of compliments!

Sorry to hear it didn't work for you. I'm not quite ready to throw in the towel yet. This evenings feeding was better because I did do the let down into a towel and then latched her on. Fussy at first and then got better! Phew!

Thanks so much for the advice!
