I need a bathing suit this year and I'm not excited about shopping for one. I'm working on dropping 30 pounds of baby weight, so the sight of me in a suit isn't going to be pretty. I feel like I don't fit into anything. I tried on some suits at JCPenney and they all looked horrible. I tried on one piece and some tankini styles. I feel so uncomfortable with how I look, but I don't want to keep DD from having fun in the pool this summer. If you don't have a perfect body, where did you get your bathing suit that you feel comfortable in? What style? I would love to find something I don't have to order so I can try it on. I carry my weight in my belly area and thighs. My torso seems to be rather long and one piece suits don't fit right (the ones I have tried on). Help me please!
Re: Help me find a bathing suit.
I ordered a suit from Venus swimwear that has a skirted bottom (flirt skirt). I don't hate my stomach (I'm not happy with it either) but I really hate my butt and thighs and this style will hide it. It looked similar to a tennis skirt but a bit shorter so I'm hoping it'd work. Would you feel comfortable in something like that? They also have tankini tops. Most of their suits you can mix and match bottoms with tops to get the right kind. I've found their sizing is pretty true to size.
I've never met you in person but I've ordered from them for years and have been pretty happy with them and I wear a D or DD top.
I have a halter 2/piece suit from Torrid,.
Well only the top is from Torrid but that is where I have the issues. The tankinis I usually try were too tight and would roll up- this one is not tight at all and fits great! They have stores at Lakeline and Barton Creek!
lands end has a wonderful line of swim wear. everything from athletic to slightly skimpy
and from tiny to not tiny sizes. you can return anything to a sears that sells lands end stuff (if i recall sears grand on parmer and 35 works).
I love this site! I ordered a suit last year and another one this year. (FYI they fixed the sizing issue this year so you don't have to order a size up anymore)
They have free shipping on all returns.

I bought this suit and it is seriously amazing. I haven't felt this good in a swimsuit in years (and I'm totally fatter since having V). I got it in red ginger and ordered it online (although you can return to store). It's awesome.

(they also have it at VS in different colors (it's called magicsuit there, though, but it seems to be the exact same suit).

Ditto fjaril's Lands' End rec. I have a pool and swim at least six months out of the year and the LE suits are awesome and made really well. I usually get the tankinis. They have a lot of suits made for special body types (long torso, DDD cup bubbies, etc.). I have this one in black and it seriously has support like Spanx for the belly and hides at least ten pounds:

I'm in the same boat and this suit looks adorable so I just ordered this suit from Zappos. We're leaving for the beach on Monday and my fat a** has nothing to wear so hopefully this works, I bought 2 different sizes just to be sure.
I would definitely recommend a tankini. Look for a solid color bottom and patterned top, to bring the eye up and away from your problem areas. You want a bottom that has some height to it- either a retro fit that just comes up higher or a fold-over that you can fold up. That will keep you from feeling like you always have to pull the top down and it will keep the bottom from cutting in, so you will have a smoother transition over the tummy. The best.suit.ever for the tummy is made by Spanx, but it is pretty expensive.
You can try skirts, but it's important to find the right length. Too high and it accents the bottom, too low and it will make the thigh seem bigger. Stay away from shorts, as tempting as it is to cover up with them.
