Bfing/ pumping and STTN?

My lc said to pump if lo was sleeping over 5 hours at night at 6 weeks. But now lo is almost 10 weeks and sleeping between 5-7 hours or more . but i hate getting up to pump because even if i go downstairs to pump it tends to wake her. When can i stop pumping in the middle of the night?

  • I never woke up to pump in the middle of the night and never had any issues.  If you haven't had supply issues in the past, I say sleep when baby does and nurse on demand and your body will adjust on its own.  If you notice a dip in supply, you can always add the pumping back in.  There's no way I would've given up sleep to pump...it's much too precious these days! :)

  • Or you can try pumping right before bed.

  • EHHH...my pedi said to let her sleep and I took that as no feedings/pumpings. Your body will adjust. I only had to wake up a couple nights in the middle to pump to relieve the pressure..then my body got used to her sleeping 7-8 hrs.

But if you want to wake up, I'd suggest a manual pump that you can keep next to your bed, so you don't have to get up and wake her up. If you aren't going to save that milk, you can just leave it on the nightstand and clean it in the morning.

  • I agree with PP, especially because LO is 10 weeks now. If she was 8 weeks or less, maybe I'd consider pumping, but I think you're fine now. Enjoy your sleep!!!
