antibiotics and bcp question

Hi girls,

I want to be able to post here more during the day! Stupid work!

So I had that nasty dog bite that I am still recovering from.  This last week, it has shown signs of infection and I have been running a low grade fever.  The doc gave me an antibiotic to kick the infection out of my system, but is this going to make the bcp null and void and screw w/ my cycle?  I obviously need to get the infection taken care of.  Unfortunately, the lip is healed up, so it is inside and I can't use anything topical.

I have never been on bcp's but have heard about being "careful" when on both.  Did any of your girls have to be on antibiotics while on bcp for your cycle?  I just hate all these horse pills and infections and questions....oh my!

    It depends which one u are on....most of the current antibiotics don't interact with the pill.

    For IVF, the antibiotics are given well after u have stopped bcps's

    I've heard that taking antibiotics while on BCP can decrease the effectiveness of the pill. So if you have unprotected sex while taking both you can become pregnant.

    Dx: LPD, underdeveloped follicles, blocked left tube

    this is true....but it is NOT ALL antibiotics.  It totally depends on which one u are on.

    I would have to look to see what I am on--but I know it is pretty strong since they are trying hard to kick this out of my system. 

    I am more worried that I will still ovulate at some random time because it is causing the bcp's to not do what they are supposed to do.  I know--this can be stupid, but I just can't help but worry with every step of the way.

    Well i wouldn't worry  about it, until u find out if it's one that interacts w the pill.  If it's not...u have nothing to worry about.

    I'll research it--I honestly didn't know it was only a few...and if Dr. Google doesn't know, I'll call my RE's office tomorrow to see what they say.
