3rd Trimester

Wondering if my baby is breech.

So does anyone's doctor not do anymore ultrasounds? The last one I had was around 20 weeks and they don't do anymore. Is there a chance I might show up to deliver and they'll say "surprise! your baby isn't in the right position, c-section!"

I've tried belly mapping but I really have no clue. The only thing that made me concerned is that I always feel hiccups all the way on my side and a little higher than my belly button. I thought her head was supposed to be down low by now? D:

  • I think it's pretty common not to have an ultrasound after 20 weeks, unless of course youhave some sort of complication.  Your doctor should be able to tell what position the baby is in from feeling your belly.

  • When I was pregnant with DS the last US I had was at 18 weeks for the anatomy scan.  I did end up needing an emergency c-section at 34 weeks because of Pre-E and HELLP....and they did an U/S right before they took me back for the c-section so they knew which way he was facing and he was head down.

This pregnancy I have had so many more US...and its probly because of my high risk status from being sick last time.  Then again I'm being seen by a different practice, in a different city, with connections to a different hospital....so I'm not 100% sure what the reasoning really is.

This.   With my 1st, the dr said she was 99% sure the head was down but did a quick u/s in the office just to double check.   It's an older machine and is usually just used for dating/checking HB in the 1st tri.   She turned it on for 30 seconds, said look, there's the head, down just like it's supposed to be and then turned it off.

    I think I was 36 or 37 weeks.

  • Your Dr/MW will be able to feel the baby and know if it's in the right position.

  • Your doctor should be able to tell you if the baby is breech. I've had a growth ultrasound since my anatomy scan, but that's because I'm high-risk. Lots of mother's only get 1 or 2 ultrasounds the whole pregnancy.
