Does any one else here have a "baby napping" sign on their door?

This is the fourth time that someone has rung the doorbell/came to the door and woke up DD. :(  I'm seriously thinking about putting a sign on the door.

Re: Does any one else here have a "baby napping" sign on their door?

  • Yup. But I think people take it a little to seriously and practically whisper at the door instead of just gently knocking.  Because I've missed a few visitors here and there because I didn't hear them!

  • i feel the same way! the worst people are my dang neighbors who know better!! i PROMISE you i will hear a knock!

i'm thinking of asking dh to disable the bell before #2 arrives. seriously. there is no one i need to talk to who is gonna ring the doorbell.

  • we don't get that many unannounced visitors, but if we know someone is coming (like the bug dude) and she is napping we stick a sticky note over the doorbell AND on the door saying to knock. yeah, we are classy with our sticky notes.
  • Yep, and he's not so much of a "baby" anymore.  I just have a sign covering the bell that says, "Please do NOT ring bell.  Knock quietly."  It works most of the time.
  • Yep, I also did the classy thing and put a sticky note over the doorbell that simply says "please do not ring doorbell."  It's tacky but I am not really caring because my baby is sleeping. :)  I had enough one day a couple of weeks ago when the fedex guy rang the doorbell when both my girls were napping.
  • I've had our doorbell disconnected for oh... 4 years? 3 years at this house and one year at our last house. Hell hath no fury like a woman who works nights and gets woken up for a delivery that didn't even need a freaking signature anyway. It also works for not interrupting the girls naps. I've missed a handful of visitors and a couple deliveries but it's all been worth it. Anyone who really knows me/us knows to knock anyway.

  • I bought some vinyl lettering from Etsy that sticks to my door that says "baby sleeping, no soliciting". It's worked so far and is something that can easily be pulled off when it's time to sell.

My last straw was when I was 37 weeks pregnant and barely sleeping and the UPS guy rang the bell and left a note that he'd be back the next day.

ETA: It resembles this.  I liked that I could get whatever size and color I wanted. I believe it was 12.00$

  • I like the no soliciting sign idea.  My parents used to have one on the front door and it seemed to work.

JayandJack, I like that idea.  I can make one with my Cricut.

The knocks bother me just as much as the doorbell, if not more, because if I don't answer the doorbell, I think people assume that it doesn't work, so then they knock really hard on the door. :(

  • No kids yet, but I remember my mom had one for my brother when he was born. It had some cutesy poem on it that finished with "you wake him to take him!" which I thought was hysterical at the time.
  • I have a note taped over the button that says "please do not ring bell". We also have a "no soliciting" sign but this isn't my main offender with the doorbell. It is the UPS/FedEx deliveries that love to drop, ring and run. I figure the "do not ring" sign doesn't necessarily imply a baby sleeping, could be to keep my dog from barking or a night shift worker sleeping. We had the "do not ring" sign for a long time before we put up the "no soliciting" sign. We had a crazy amount of magazine salespeople coming by and knocking with their "I'm not selling anything" sales pitch so a lot of people in my hood put up signs.

  • i have a 'do not knock OR ring bell' sign over my doorbell.  knocking elicits just as much barking from the dog, which is my issue with the doorbell.

anyone who knows us can call/text when they arrive and i'm not worried about people knowing we have kids.  pretty sure the minivan in the driveway and sidewalk chalk everywhere tips them off ;)

This! My sign is rude, " do not ring" over the bell and do not knock- attack dogs live here" on my door. I have two tiny dogs who bark like hell!
