TY note for a recommendation letter?

My last principal wrote me a really nice rec letter and I was thinking about sending him a thank you note. Is that weird?  I could tell he put some time into it, unlike my last principal who inserted my name on a form letter from a couple years before. Indifferent

    I'm not sure if there are specific etiquette rules involving this, but I think it's a great idea to send a thank you.

    First, why did you leave?  

    I ask bc if you were a sub, leave replacement, or student teacher, then sending a ty letter is a great way to be sure he remembers you and will keep you in mind should a permanent position ever open up.   

    So send it asap :o)
