Recommendations on bottles?

I am switching to formula and not sure on what type of bottles to use. I only had Medela bottles in the house because that's what came with my pump. I tried Tommy Tippee but formula seems to seep out the sides of my daughters mouth more than normal and I don't think she liked the shape of the nipple. Any recommendations on what brand to use? I wasn't planning on not breastfeeding so I am totally uneducated on bottles :( TIA

Re: Recommendations on bottles?

  • For formula, you're better off with a wide-mouth bottle (easier pouring).

Here are my 3 favorite bottles and why:

  • Hi Tia :)

I also was not planning on going the formula route :)  We started with Dr. Brown which cut down on the gas but poured too fast for Gavin and he was choking...we recently bought and have been using Born Free...they are great!  And are known for acting like a nipple which was a great transition.  A bit on the pricey side but worth it in my opinion!  Good luck and lets connect...Saramae

  • We actually had the same scenario and same issue with Tommee Tippee's and we had received (free with formula samples from Nestle) a NUK bottle.  DS liked the size and shape of the nipple and had much less spillage.  The best part?  They're cheap (we've since bought several more) and there are few parts to clean, compared to some other brands I've heard about.  I would buy a few of a couple different brands as it is apparently just trial and error.  Lucky for us, we tried only 2 and landed on one we love!! • We have the Born Free glass bottles. They are expensive, but worth it. I love the idea of using glass instead of plastic, and they're really well made.

We also have the BreastFlow bottles (by The First Years), which are supposed to be good for breastfed babies. I like that he drinks slower out of them, but I'm not crazy about the bottles in general.

  • I really like the Avent bottles.  The Dr. Browns are okay too, but I perfer the Avent.

  • So far we've been using Dr. Brown's, and they seem to work well for us! I was using the Medela bottles that came with my pump, but when I stopped BFing/pumping, found that the Dr. Brown's cut down on gas issues! If you use 'em, just make sure not to forget the insert!

  • When we had to unexpectedly switch to forumla we found that the only bottles DD would accept were the Playtex drop ins with the latex (not silicone) nipples.

Now at 7 weeks she'll pretty much drink from any bottle.

  • i was trying to BF also, and then started supplementing, along with BFing. I use the the first years "Breastflow" bottles.. designed to be the same sucking as BFing, so there is no nipple confusion. Its the first bottle like it, and I can say, it works!! I can give DD the bottle and then BF and she latches on great! I did try another standard bottle also one, and it took me 15 min to get her to latch properly on after that!
