XP: PP Bleeding Question...A Little Worried...(Possible TMI)

I am 4 and a half weeks PP and yesterday morning I began bleeding again. I had stopped for about about week and a half and now I have light bleeding again (a mix of red and pink). Anyone have experience with PP bleeding stopping and starting? Should I be concerned?

  • I've been bleeding off and on since delivery. I'll go a few days with nothing, then bleed a little, and then it will stop. I hadn't really thought too much about it... hopefully its normal! I'm interested to see other replies....

  • Mine has stopped and started, too. I actually posted about this when I was around 3 or 4 weeks PP because I started having bright red bleeding after I thought things had been tapering off. A lot of ladies responded saying the same thing happened to them, so I'd say it's normal. Unless you're soaking a pad in an hour I wouldn't worry.

  • My bleeding is on and off.  And when I do have it, it is almost always red.

But maybe it is your period?

  • It happened with my first and is happening again with my 2nd.

The way my doc explained it was that your placenta totally lines the uterus, so when the placenta is delivered, your uterus is totally exposed and it is almost as if it forms a scab.  So even though you might feel totally healed, the uterus is building its tissues again to cover the area that the placenta once did.  So when you overdo it, or have random movements, it is like picking a scab and it can start to bleed again. That is why it is bright red.

Does that make sense?  I am not as good at explaining it as the doc did.  Lots of women think it is AF, but for many it is not.
