Long time no see, women. ![]()
Life has been bizarre for me the past few months. Mom's cancer returned with a vengeance, presenting with 10 metastases on her spine. She went through neurosurgery a couple of months ago to remove one of the larger tumors that was pressing on her spinal cord, causing rapid-onset paralysis. In the five weeks she was admitted to the hospital, I logged over 4,500 driving miles making the 200-mile round-trip drive to visit her daily.
Two weeks ago, she was released from the hospital and is now living with us, re-learning how to walk and function. Last week, she started radiation therapy. Once her course of treatment is finished, she'll begin chemotherapy. The ultimate goal is for her to resume life where she left off back in February; living on her own, and enjoying her grandbabies every day after school.
In the mean time, I'm juggling 10 different medical specialties, both businesses, my regular teaching schedule, civic responsibilities, and all of the normal family stuff. It's nuts, but I'm very well-supported. DH has been fabulous through all of this.
On a positive note, I'm in the very final stages of my diet. I've lost a grand total of 103 pounds, and am headed into the long-term phase of maintenance. I'm really, really enjoying building up my endurance and strength with my exercise program. Most of all, though, I love how much easier life is without all the excess weight.
Enough about me -- how are all of you? What's new? Who's KU?
xoxo

I've MIIIIIISSSSSSSSSED YOU!!!!! Was just thinking about you yesterday and wondering how you were doing. Continued T&P to your mother and your family - I can't imagine, but I'm so happy that your DH is so wonderfully supportive. I'm glad she is at your house now. I couldn't imagine how scary and difficult it would be if my mom's cancer came back, so huge (hugs) to you. All the best to your family and (of course) yourself.
And a huge congrats on your weight loss - that is amazing!
What an incredible accomplishment (one of many, in your case!).
Lotte's knocked up, and she had the audacity to do it RIGHT after I gave birth so we couldn't be pg together... *grumble*
