Just wondering if this is a necessary investment, especially for restaurants but also at my mom's house. I only go to restaurants that already have high chairs available (mostly the wooden, uncomfortable-looking kind). I could use them I guess but I don't think my boys would do well in them. I wonder if the kind that fasten to the table and have a higher back would be better.
ETA: If I should get some, any recs?
Re: Do you own portable high chairs?
We have a couple now (bought them for their 1st birthday party at work). We happen to keep them in the car, but we don't take them in to restaurants (though I guess we would if they were out of high chairs or something). The high chairs at restaurants are fine-- the kids have padded diaper butts and the chairs are easy to clean. At your mom's, though, it might be worth it to have one or two on hand (depending on how much you're there). Sometimes it's nice just to be able to contain them for a minute, lol.
We have one of the Chicco(?) clip-on kind and one of the booster seat (that straps to a chair) kind. The clip-on one is better, I think. We got it at a MoM sale.

I have FP space savers at home too. Love 'em! But I don't really want to bring them anywhere b/c they don't fold flat.

We have the Chicco 360 seats that hook on to the table, and they're great for travel. We used to use them every day, but the lack of a shoulder harness made it difficult to feed them when they were more interested in what the dog was doing under the table.
We have the FP Space Savers hooked into bar stools in the kitchen, and love them for everyday use.
We have yet to take high chairs into a restaurant with us, but I would think the Chiccos would work, as long as you didn't mind a bit of a production in getting them set up.
we have 2 of the Phil & Teds Me Too chairs and love them. We used them (well, it) a lot more when we only had Griffin - now with 3 kids needing seats it's not as easy to fit into smaller booths like we did all the time with Griffin using the Me Too chair... but if i only had twins I'd still be using them a ton.
they are great b/c the kids can sit a booth with you and are not out in the walkway area - asking to have trays of food spilled on them, etc.
they are awesome b/c they fold up so flat.
If i had the City Select when they were infants i would be all over the HyChairs - if they fold flat (i haven't seen any reviews to find out if they do- but they look like they do)... since I always have the Select in my car- it would be so easy to use those in restaurants I'd think.
We keep the Me Too chairs in my car at all times.
We have the FB Heathy Booster seats. Love them! When my girls were able to sit up, they were still so tiny, they had a hard time in restaurant high chairs. We brought these along everywhere! The back folds down and there is a carrying strap. We also use them as our daily high chairs at home! They're pretty cheap too. Overall, just awesome!
Same for us- I used them a bunch yesterday as we visited people. Here's a link. They're also great when my friends come over with their kids- I can have 4 kids eating at once! We also use them for travel, etc.
