3rd Trimester

Yes, I am crazy...1st birthday...?

I know I'm steaming full speed ahead with this thought and that there is SO much between now and then, but I can't seem to quit thinking about baby's first birthday! I have so many ideas I just want to start now and she isn't even here yet! Anyone else as crazy delusional as I am? haha If so, what are some of your ideas/themes/hopes etc?

  • Well she'll be too little to know it's her birthday, and I absolutely HATE chuck-e-cheese and the like, so probably a BBQ (weather permitting) for family and friends.  Something laid back.

  • Family and close friends only.  We will not be doing a 'friends' bday party for our little girl until she is in full time school.. so when she turns six. I only had family and neighborhood friends over (and my parents' friends' kids) for my birthday parties and they were all low key affairs... homemade cake and ice cream with a pinata (when she's a bit older) sounds fun to me! Although I do think I'll provide adult beverages for the first couple of birthdays for the parents.. :)

  • I was obsessed w/ throwing birthday parties for my siblings and more recently my inlaws. Since I never had full creative licence I have already though out many ideas for my LO. Since he is due June 1st I'm hoping for cookout weather and a picnic theme (catapillar cake, ants on a log, checkered tablecloths) or a beach theme w/ a turtle cake and sand dollar cookies....yeah I hate Martha Stewart but only because I want to be her!!!

  • The first year already flies by too fast, slow down mama and enjoy it! I get what you mean you can't wait for their first this or that and before you know it you have a three year old+.

LOL, I already have a theme. DS2's 2nd birthday is a week after this baby's due date, so I've been working on his party (Very Hungry Caterpillar theme) so I won't have to do it later. The party is going to be a bit late so I'll have a 2-3 week old baby. Anyway, I keep getting distracted and thinking about this LO's first birthdya instead!! We have a huge yard and it's July so we have parties at home.

I'm planning to do a 'You Are My Sunshine' theme for this LO's 1st birthday, since it will suit a July birthday so well. I got the idea from Kara's Party ideas, a fantastic party blog: https://karaspartyideas.blogspot.com/2010/09/real-party-my-little-sunshine.html I love the idea of all the yellow, with lemonade and bright summery foods and I'm thinking of potted sunflower plants for the kids to take home as favors.

LOVE! :) Wow that site has such cool ideas! I love it, thanks for sharing!

I did The Very Hungry Caterpillar for DS's 1st birthday.   It was great!   I used light and dark green tablecloths.   I taped balloons together to make caterpillars and hung them everywhere.   I scanned pics from the book and enlarged to make posters to hang up too.   My dad made a cake shaped like a caterpillar using bundt cakes

  • Nope, I'm not thinking about it yet.  At this point, I'm just focusing on having this baby already!

That being said, LO isn't going to know the difference at his first birthday, so I like the idea of doing something geared more towards the enjoyment of the parent and family/friends.  That doesn't mean that it can't have a "kiddy" theme and what not, but just that it wouldn't be over the top.  Friends of ours rented out a room in a restaurant and had a buffet of appetizers and an open bar for the adults and cake, balloons, music, goody bags, etc for the kids.  It was really fun for the parents and the kids.

  • Every time I see adorable cake pops or frosted cookies, I make a mental note for LO's first birthday.  :)
