AW: our new baby!!!!!

Meet Princess Zelda Butter Shine!

Why yes, Meredith did name her. Stick out tongue

Zelda is a golden retriever puppy, and she joined our family on Saturday. So far Meredith is madly in love; Alex thinks she's great, except when she tries to bite his toes. Mike and I are enjoying our new baby, and our terrier mix Dexter gives her the occasional butt sniff and seems to tolerate her okay.

Re: AW: our new baby!!!!!

  • She's adorable!  Love that little puppy face, how old is she?

I love the names that kids come up with.  Jakob had goldfish once that he named Jedi Super Fish  :)

And Princess Zelda Butter Shine is adorable Broken Heart (that was the closest thing to a "love" just pretend the heart isn't broken)

Cute!  I told DH I really want a Golden the next time we get a dog.  He told me only if I brush it. :)

We get ours shaved every summer - it really helps with all the fuzz!  It keeps the amount of hair that sheds on the rugs in check for about half of the year. Stick out tongue

Our fish are Choo Choo and Aloysius the Fishus. Stick out tongue

Zelda is five weeks old. Younger than I would have preferred to take home, frankly, but she's doing really well. Her parents' owners live in an apartment and did not have their pets spayed or neutered. Nine puppies resulted, the landlord found out and was none too pleased at 11 dogs in a one bedroom apartment. They were given a brief period of time to get rid of the extra 9 dogs or face large fines. So believe it or not, it was a "free to good home" scenario. She is eating solid food well, so the owners asked if we would go ahead and take her on Saturday so they'd have one less dog.

Choosing Dexter as a first pet was easy. Finding a second dog was a lot harder. We wanted a female to avoid two males marking their territory all over our house. We wanted something that would be bigger than Dex and could play with the kids (Dexter tolerates the kids, but he prefers to hang out with Mike and me), but she needed to be smaller than Dexter when she joined our family so he could get used to her before she became larger and potentially intimidating to him. I stalked petfinder, our local Humane Society and craigslist for months before we found Zelda. Smile

Yeah, we see shaving in our future. I bought a grooming kit with an electric shaver, and I shaved Dexter a few weeks ago. I had enough fur to create another dog. Indifferent Yes, I am super cheap. I figure if I can shave Mike's head and trim Alex's hair, I can manage to shave a dog.

  • Cute!  Watch out, once a golden owner, always a golden owner.  We're on our 3rd golden :)  You're not insane--I have a 5 month old golden, a 5 year old daschund, 2 kids, a university position, 30 private students, and I run a business.  That's insane!  We're in the chewing ev.ery.thing.  stage right now.  But always fun.  Good luck!
