Fashion Cowbody Boots and Bobcatsteph's visitor

I'm still planning our trip to Austin and can't thank you enough for all the great ideas in my last post. I have 2 more questions for you awesome Austin ladies....

First, let's talk about fashion cowboy boots. I'm dying to get a cute pair to wait with cute summer dresses and I've been looking online. I'd like a cute brown and black pair  Any great places in Austin to shop cute fashion cowboy boots?

Last but definitely not least....I am making every attempt not to sound silly here but I saw Bobcatsteph's post about her "visitor." I'm DEATHLY afraid of snakes and haven't stopped thinking about it since I read her post. Since we're considering a move to Austin I have to ask if this is something that you all deal with on a regular basis? Are Austin and dealing with snakes a package deal? Part of our plans are to do the walk around Town Lake/Lady Bird Lake (thank you LLCG Smile) but all I can picture is running into a snake along the way. Am I crazy? In Washington we only have gardner snakes and I've maybe seen 2 or 3 in my entire life (I grew up in the country even) so this scares me to death.

Thanks again for your input. I appreciate it!

  • If you are downtown, you may want to check out Allen's Boots on South Congress, https://www.allensboots.com/, and there are also a couple of Cavendar's Boots around town.

I've lived in Austin for 5 years and have only seen one snake.  There are snakes around and you have to be aware, but it is not something I would worry about.

  • I'm no help with the boots because I've been here for 11 years and I still don't have any.

That was the first snake I've seen since I moved here.

Yep.  I got both of my pairs of boots at Allen's.  Plus, South Congress is just a cool area to walk around.

As far as snakes go, we had a king snake (big and scary-looking but totally harmless) on our front porch one day and had a garter snake in the back yard - this was in 5 years of living there.  If  you are out hiking through greenbelts, you might run into a snake, but the trails around Town Lake should be pretty much snake-free since there are usually a ton of people on them.

  • I am right there with you on the snakes. I couldn't even sleep after reading that because I was dreaming of snakes!! They are my worst fear. I can't even see them on TV or at the zoo. They freak me out!! We have not seen any in our yard. (Thank God!) I told my DH the day I ever see one in the yard I will NOT take the kids outside again. :-)

This is EXACTLY how I feel about snakes. My worst fear. I've actually told DH that we may have to reconsider Austin if I had to deal with snakes. We were laying in bed and I kept talking about the snake in her car. I told him I would definitely be doing more research on the topic. LOL!  I would die if I had a "king" snake on my porch or even saw a king snake. OMG, no way...l wouldn't even know how to handle it. Do you call have animal control for that sort of thing? Yikes!

Another vote for Allen's.  I shopped at Cavendar's also but didn't find the style that I wanted and felt the salesperson was very pushy at trying to get me to buy a different pair.

We live in a rural area on about an acre of land and I have seen a snake once, maybe twice.  I know that they are out there but choose not to think about it because it creeps me out!  I try to be smart about where I walk or when I am moving thinks that have been sitting in the same spot for awhile.

  • no advice on the boots - i've lived here five years and still don't own any cowboy boots.  as for the snakes, i think it also depends on where you live.  we live in a pretty new community that is surrounded by big fields (our yard actually is up against a large field) and we had 3 snakes in our yard last summer.  and believe me, i am just as afraid of snakes as you.  even thinking about them gives me the shivers.  eeeeeeeeww.  but maybe if you're in a more urban area you won't see them as frequently.

    GL!!

As for snakes, I've been here 4.5 years and have only seen one snake and it was teeny. Now, the scorpions...

Oh no, you really don't want to know more. Move along, move along.

As far as snakes go, I've seen enough since we lived in the country for awhile. In town it's pretty rare, and they are usually just going to be tiny garden snakes- not the scarey or bitey kind. Again, rare.  If you go hiking, just avoid tall grass and you'll be fine.

You can use your newly-purchased cowboy boots to step on them and squish them.  Seriously.  :)
