ETA: Alice is fine. She cried for 2 minutes and was fine after that. I'm the one that is still a basketcase.
I HOPE that everyone knows better, but just in case...
Last week I put A in her car seat (unstrapped) on top of the island in the kitchen, ran upstairs to get something, and she fell out. She fell over 3 feet to a hard tile floor. We spent the morning at Dell ER getting a CT scan to rule out any brain bleeds or skull fractures.
I've been told that at some point this will be funny, but its not now. Maybe in 30 years? I've been having horrible nightmares about her falling and when I go to get her she's all bloody... and worse.
The (really hot) EMT gave me probably the best parenting advice ever: If you ever think to yourself, "It'll only be a minute..." then there is probably something wrong with what you are doing. Don't do it!
The ER doc said that he sees a patient for this kind of accident literally every day. So, don't let it be your kid. This is preventable and hopefully all of our Austin bumpies can learn from my mistake.
Re: PSA: Don't be an idiot like me
I'm so sorry y'all had to go through all that, and SO glad sweet A is okay!
I used to tell my DH all the time when I left DD alone with him, "Remember, she can't fall off the floor." It became our mantra.
I'm so sorry to hear that, but glad she is ok! And try not to beat yourself up. DH had Ruby on the couch on Thursday and she rolled off. I'm still trying not to beat him up about that.
