What was your 7 month old eating?

Should I be starting more solids, like stuff that isn't purees for DD?  She's had all of the stage 1 Gerber foods and the oatmeal.  We've let her try some mashed up bananas and some vanilla yogurt.  What are some other things I can feed her?  Can she have those Gerber puffs or yogurt melts?  What about meats at this age?  Right now she drinks 4-5 5 ounce bottles a day, for breakfast I give her oatmeal mixed with fruit, lunch is a veggie and dinner is a veggie/fruit mix.  Let me know what you did at this age.

  • She can definitely have some puffs. I even gave Kinley Cheerios and other small crackers. As long as she is chewing good she can have regular table foods, just make sure they are small. You could even move her to stage 2 or 3 depending on how much she is eating and/or how well she chews the food.

  • Jakob loved his baby food at 7 months old.  I think I gave him Cheerios once in a while but he didn't have any teeth so I was afraid to give him real food.  At 9 months, his doctor said they don't really use their teeth anyway so go ahead and give him food.

Layna hated baby food and was completely on table food by 7 months.  I gave her anything I could mush up easily in my mouth....bananas, ripe pears, peeled grapes (so not worth the effort!), Cheerios, Puffs, waffles, toast....pretty much anything.

I didn't bother with meats until 9 months old.

  • We're doing a similar schedule, but I have moved him to the stage 2 foods and some meats. His pedi said that was okay. I'll also give him a few puffs or yogurt melts, but it is more for practice so far. He plays with them and might get one in his mouth every now and then.

  • Ali, it is interesting to hear that Layna didn't like baby food.  Ruby doesn't seem to like it either.  We started her with rice cereal, and oatmeal cereal, both of which she doesn't like.  About 2-3 weeks ago, we started her on mashed bananas, and added in mashed avocado, and cooked, mashed sweet potato.  Last week I bought some baby food - winter squash and roasted pears (separate containers).  I think she has gotten so used to the texture of the other things she is eating that she doesn't like the runny-ness of the baby food.  Or maybe she just doesn't like winter squash - who knows.  But anyhoo, I am going to stick to cooking and mashing things for her, as that's what she seems to like.
