What baby monitor are you using?

Just curious what monitor are you using? I keep debating about which one is best. Someone bought us one already, but I am thinking of returning it and getting the Angelcare Deluxe Movement Monitor. What are you using???

Re: What baby monitor are you using?

  • We got the Mobicam (not exclusively a baby monitor).  It's what my sister uses and she highly recommends it.

  • sony babycall. when we were at BRU completeing our registry we were debateing over the two receiver (has a main unit and two cordless) and this woman was there picking a single receiver and the main unit and recommended it. she was having her second child and had one for her first and loved it so much that she wanted another for her current babys room.

I was actually swayed away from the Angel Care monitors due to the BRU registry rep told us so many people end up hating them and bringing them back (or at least trying to). She said that alot of people said that the settings on it were just to sensitive even with adjusting it (I guess you can) and they still hate it with all the false alarms.

Philips Avent DECT SCD510. We thought about a video monitor but were not impressed with the reviews.

  • It depends on:

    - how much you can spend,

    - whether you want audio or video,

    - how much interference you have in your house with other electronics

    My 2 cents here: https://www.lucieslist.com/5-sleeping/#monitors

  • we are using the Sony baby call, too.  I have heard good things about them from friends and the reviews were pretty good too.
  • Sony Babycall.  We have one with DS and got other one for DD.

We have a 2 story 4 Bed 2.5 Bath about 2,000 sq ft house and I'm pretty sure we will still only really need 1 receiver instead of the two it comes with.

I don't really see the point in paying $100+ on a baby monitor, I'm not going to be leaving her alone that often. And I don't see the point in buying a video monitor/movement monitor either. Like I said she won't be out of my sight that often. I might leave her upstairs in her crib while I cook dinner or shower but the second I hear her I will go check on her, I won't look at a monitor and see what she is doing before I decide if its worth a trip or anything.

  • We have the Summer Infant Slim and Secure and we just bought a second camera for DD.  I didn't originally have a video monitor, but ended up getting one once I realized I really needed to see DS while he was in the nursery.

We also have the lower priced Angel Care Monitor and we LOVE it and have had no issues with it.  We bought it when DS was 4 months old and would roll onto his tummy and sleep face down, but he wasn't able to roll back.  I'll start using it from day 1 with DD.   It's too bad Angelcare doesn't have offer a combo movement/video monitor, or I would have purchased that instead.

i completely disagree. we got a video monitor and it's worth it's weight in gold. when DS came home, we were going to have him sleep in our room, but he was such a noisy sleeper that we moved him to his own room right away (right across the hall). if i had a dime for every time i flipped the camera on in the middle of the night to see if he was really awake or just fussing in his sleep, that thing would have paid for itself twice over.

the other thing to consider is when they are toddlers - we didn't use the monitor from when DS was about 6 months until 2 years. when we switched him to his big boy bed, it was awesome being able to watch him through the monitor and not have to screw the whole thing up by going back in there ot see if he was out of his bed.

  • I'm not a high tech monitor person.

I'm using the same one we used five years ago with DD...

    Photobucket
  • I have a dead laptop (as in, i rarely use it but haven't recycled it yet) and a webcam that I rarely use (since most of the laptops that I'm using are new and have internal webcams).

I'm totally using that as a video/audio camera, and streaming it using Quicktime Broadcast.

This!  Although I'm a FTM, I nannied for an infant/toddler last year and they had a video monitor.  It was SO nice to be able to watch him from the video rather than going into the bedroom and waking him up if he was just stirring.  I can't tell you how many times I heard something, looked at the monitor to see he was not fully awake and within five minutes he was back to sleep.  If we just had an audio monitor he would have woken up the second I opened the door.  Plus, it gave me some peace of mind to see he was moving/breathing in his sleep (but then again I'm neurotic like that, haha!).

That being said, we got the Summer Infant Digital Video Monitor.  We set it up last week and it is AMAZING.  I wasn't wild about spending the money on it, but I know it will be well worth it in the end.  The salesman at Buy Buy Baby told us that they are coming out with new software in June (completely secure) that will enable you to view your monitor from your smart phone/iPad.  Sooo, when DH is traveling for work he can still log on to the iPad and watch our LO.

  • We were given the Summer Infant Best View Night and Day Video Monitor. It's awesome! We have one camera for each boy and they're wonderful! We can push a button whenever we hear a noise and know if we need to go comfort the boys or if they're just making noises. It gives you a color picture during the day and black & white at night. When we stayed with our grandparents, they had a cheapie Fisher Price monitor (not sure which one) and it worked just fine, though. Honestly, we'd probably use something similar to it if we were gifted the video monitors, but I'm loving the cameras!

  • Ours is a Summer monitor with video and audio(can't remember the model.) I wanna be able to see DD and decide if she really needs me to come to her or if she is doing ok by glancing at the monitor. I think it will be most handy when she gets old enough to get up but for now I still think it's handy. I've tried it out on my dogs, and I like it.

I am a FTM and will be a SAHM too, and I may eat these words later but I refuse to pay for a ridiculously expensive video monitor.

I won't mind getting up to check on the baby, or sending DH to do it. I won't be lazy when it comes to my only job.

  • Nothing.

We're already slacker parents. We do have a crappy audio-only one in case we want to do yardwork, but for every day in the house use... I don't see the point. We live in a small, compact space.

  • Theaustins - this is exactly our set up also, but with the webcam/laptop/quicktime broadcast.  we can broadcast it to DH's computer at work, to my laptop at any time.  Which freaking rocks.  It'll be especially nice when DH is at work and I'm at Maternity Leave and he could see the baby as well... Even if just sleeping.

haha, It isn't about being lazy. Sometimes babies fuss in their sleep, and sometimes they are actually awake and need you.  You go in their room simply to check and then they wake up and it's ALL over, especially with a toddler. I love being able to watch DS and gauge if he needs me or not.

Some people are fine with just an audio monitor, but it really has nothing to do with laziness. (well I guess you can call me lazy, if I don't want to spend 2 hours up in the night because I accidently woke DS by going in to check him)

I don't plan to use the monitor in our bedroom at night, her room is just across our hall, and if she cries I will hear it no problem, also we have a bassinet in our bedroom that she might sleep in during the first few months. I also don't plan on getting up for every single whimper or sigh. If she cries I will go to her, and I will check in every hour too probably.

Once again, this is my first baby so I may live to eat my words.

  • We're also going with the Sony Baby Call. Mainly because it has the best chance of working with our wireless network.

No interest in video or sensors to start. It mainly seems handy for laundry. We're cloth diapering and the washer/dryer are in the basement with the nursery on the second floor, so there will be a lot of being too far away to hear. At night we're right next door and leave the doors open so that's much less of an initial issue.

We have the Summer Infant Night and Day one. The picture is awesome. I am especially impressed with the night vision. It came highly recommended from my BIL (he and SIL actually bought it for us) and has great reviews.

  • Anglecare Deluxe with movement pad.   Used it for DD and will be using it again.

We moved it into the new nursery this weekend.   I got the Angelcare Sound only for my DD room.   Since, I have been using the other with just sound for some time now.

I have ABSOLUTELY NO REGRET..in my monitor.    Video is nice...but...I am not into just watching her.

  • Our house is pretty small so I'm going to give it a go without a monitor.  We'll see how that works, but I think it should be fine.

FWIW, a friend of mine has the video monitor and it really came in handy when I was babysitting a few months ago.  Like someone else said above, it's nice to be able to check on the monitor if they are just fussing or if they really are awake without opening the door and fully waking them.  That being said, at this point I don't want to have to spend the $300 on it if I don't need to. :)

  • Just the cheapest audio monitor they sell at Target is good enough for our small place.

However, a video one would be great right now for our toddler, last night we listened to him read "Click Clack Moo" and "Goodnight Moon" to himself and it was hilarious, I wanted to see if he was sitting up in bed doing it or what.

  • We got the Philips Avent DECT Monitor with temp sensor because of the ratings from Consumer Reports... and it was the only thing my husband picked out and wanted (he loves gadgets!)

We decided NOT to go with the video monitor because I was afraid I would be too attached to it and just needed to let the baby get some sleep and not stare at him all of the time. I was concerned about the Angelcare going off too often. Figured this would work for us.

Amazing news!  I think we will stick with our Sony Monitor until June and then get this one too.  It would be awesome for H to be able to see LO when he is out of town on his iPad.  Thanks for the info!

  • We also got the Sony Babycall monitor. We had the Angelcare movement one on our registry for awhile but ended up changing our minds. Our LO is going to be in a PnP for awhile and the sensor pad has to be on a hard flat surface under the mattress, not exactly possible in a PnP. I've also read a lot of reviews about false alarms and the sensor pad not being big enough. I've heard lots of great things about the Babycall so I am hoping that works for us.

  • We also got the Sony Babycall. It has excellent reviews.  The reason we chose it is because it is Water Resistant. We have a hot tub, and this way we can take it outside and not have to worry if it gets splashed.  It was the only water resistant one we could find.
