Re: washing all clothes or just sizes you'll use soon?

  • I only washed the NB stuff.

I know she will not be a big baby and hear the 0-3's are big at first.

  • I haven't washed anything yet because I'm waiting until after my sprinkle next weekend, but I will probably only wash a couple NB (so if he's bigger I don't wash and not be able to use) and then the 0-3/3mth stuff. The bigger stuff I just have on the lower drawers of the dresser or hanging in the closet.

  • I washed all the newborn and 0-3 month stuff so far.  I have stored all the other clothes my friends have given me in drawers in the closet (we have up to 2T).

  • I have only washed a few NB and 0-3 months so far. Her closet has lots of storage space so I have everything stored in there separated by sizes.
  • I haven't washed anything.  My LO is measuring rather big, so I can't even be certain NB stuff will fit.  I'm waiting to see what I'll use and will wash as I need.

A mom on another boards suggested waiting to wash anything until later just in case.  Once you wash it, you can't take it back.

  • here is a good post I googled and found to reference how long LO's wear NB clothing. I guess it really depends on the baby..

seems like for most it was about 4-8 weeks

  • I have the newborn and most of the 0-3 stuff washed. I'm guessing this guy will be pretty good sized, so I'm guessing he won't be in nb sizes for a while.

I haven't had any of my 3 showers yet, so anything that isn't currently washed will remain unwashed until the dust has settled from the showers and I can get all the clothes organized.

We will probably end up exchanging stuff for bigger sizes since we have NOTHING larger than 6 months right now.

  • I'm only going to wash the NB and 0-3. I stored everything with DD #1 that was too big in the bottom drawer of her dresser or hung in the closet. Now everything that we've kept that she's outgrown are in rubber maid bins which i've got in her closet. So as DD #2 grows into it i'll pull them out sort wash etc.

  • I took the tags off everything and threw it all into the same hamper planning to wash all sizes at once. But so far we've gotten very little over 6 mo.

I'm washing everything and just separating it out by sizes.  We have a pretty large dresser for her so the larger sizes will just go in the bottom drawer.  I'm afraid if I take the tags off and store it without washing it, when she does get into those sizes I'll forget that I never washed it in the first place.

  • I'm only washing a couple new newborn outfits to begin with (the potential bring home outfits), just incase he is a big baby. I am going to wash all the hand me downs though (there are a ton...score!) My mom is staying with us after he is born so she can do the laundry for whatever else we need done immediately (she's offered I'm not being bitchy) Everything else is just going to stay tagged in the closet/dresser until I need it and if I dont I'll take it back for bigger stuff : ) though I am sure mom will go through and pick out everything she bought and make sure it gets "untagged" and washed lol

  • So far, I have only washed the items we received as hand me downs.  I'll probably not wash any gifts until after LO is born so that we can gear our choices more for a boy or girl.

  • I washed the NB, 0-3, and 3-6 month sizes and put them away in the dresser drawers or hung them in her closet - the larger sizes are put away in the closet and/or the lowest dresser drawer.

I already exchanged some of the excess smaller-sized items from my baby showers for larger sizes because most stores have limited return policies. I based the amount of each size that I kept by recommendations in the Baby Bargains book and some other baby websites.

  • for those leaving tags on stuff until later how are you keeping track of which clothes go with which receipt in case you need to exchange?

  • I've done 2 loads of his laundry so far (got tons of winter stuff on clearance).  I've washed everything and put them away in the closet or dresser.  I'll also do another load after my shower on Saturday.

I organized them in the closet using closet dividers sold on etsy and the dresser we got has 8 drawers so I have a big drawer per size ie: NB & 0-3; 3-6 etc.

  • I have washed all of his clothes that were given to me by friends or familly, because I know they can't be taken back anywhere as they are used, and I wanted to make sure they were clean.  I have washed all of the towels, blankets, socks that I know we will use.  As for the new clothes that I got for our shower, I will most likely wash the Newborn and the 0-3 month.  I may possibly wash the 3-6 after I do inventory of what we have, if I know that he will be using it all.  Beyond that I will most likely just stick it in a tupperware bin with any bigger clothes and have it packed away for when he can use the stuff.

  • You still could wash all her blankets and covers for things like swings, bouncy chairs, ect. I washed all newborn and 0-3 months. Our laundry is a block away in our complex and we don't have family near to help out as much. So, I didn't want to worry about laundry when she's adjusting to living with us. To me, it's worth a few $ even if she doesn't wear all her newborn stuff. Bigger sizes are in the bottom drawer.

  • I was a VERY large baby so I'm worried this little girl will be huge and won't fit into newborn sizes so I just washed a couple of newborn onesies and such I got at my shower.  I have returned af few of the NB outfits I received for larger sizes and I still have a couple that were so cute I didn't want to return but left them with the tags on in case they won't fit when she gets here.

Other than that I have washed everything I've gotten up to 6 months.  My 6 month to 3T (yeah I know!) clothes I have received are all in a plastic storage container thing in the basement.  I will probably start washing the 6-12mo whenever she starts to grow out of what I already have washed.

  • I'm washing as little as possible before the baby is born.  In fact, as of now, I haven't even bought him any clothes yet, and probably won't for about a month.  (If he was born right now, he'd need preemie clothes anyway, which aren't on my shopping list, so I see no hurry to shop.)  My showers aren't for another 3 weeks, so I'll see what I get then, and then start shopping.  But I don't think I'll have more than maybe 10 outfits washed, including some newborn and some 0-3 month.  Everything else will still have tags on.

I'm getting these bins, and will have a bin for each size clothes.  The size the baby is in currently, and maybe one bigger, will be in the dresser, and the rest of these bins will be in the closet.  That way, they'll be ready and waiting, pre-sorted, and after the baby outgrows them, they'll be easy to store for the next baby, hand-me-downs, etc.
