Oh boy....the tummy rub has begun....

So yesterday two people rubbed my belly. It's weird. It's uncomfortable. Is it really necessary for people to do this?! Then today during a family get-together for Easter....it was rubbed four more times. I don't think that I would mind it as much if the baby was actually bigger and actually taking up much more of my tummy.....but as of right now, my stomach is just hard and they are just rubbing my hard chub and guts that have been pushed up.

And of course nobody asks before they put their hands all over....I would NEVER do that to someone.

Finally I said (laughing) to the last two people that did the belly rub: "You know you are just rubbing my guts right?! If you want to rub the baby.....you have to do it down here...." and pointed to right over my public bone......HAHA!

Who else is getting the belly rub already?!

  • I straight up block peoples hands and say that touching my stomach makes me very nauseous.   Its true, and it works.  I might use this excuse through the whole pregnancy.  I figure that if they think they are close enough to rub my belly, they wont mind hearing about my nausea.

  • I told people at work yesterday when we all went out to the bar. I was the "designated driver". Once they had some alcohol in their system, I was the "pregnant woman" all night. They continued to rub my belly. <br/> I read What to Expect that if you don't like this, rub their belly back. I might honestly try this next time!! lol

  • I've had two belly rubs and I'm over them already.  They are so awkward.  Why do they do that?

What a great idea! MIL is fond of giving me hearty two handing belly rubs that just shake everything up. I've tried to turn to avoid it, but she follows me around until she has me by the handful while yelling HAHA I GOT YOU!!!     Maybe a nice jiggle to her rolls will shut her up.

  • MIL actually leaned it and talked to LO! Got plenty of rubs too. I'm fine with it as long as it's people I know. They're just excited!

  • One of my co-workers pulled the tummy rub thing and I was horrified.  I'm not even that close with her!  Also, when I called one of my guy friends to tell him I was pregnant he got all excited and was like "yay, you are my first friend that I'm close enough to that I can rub your belly!". . .I was horrified!

I told DH to make it very clear to his parents that tummy rubbing was absolutely NOT ok.

  • Oh, I hate this! What makes people think this is OK, seriously? I think I may use the nauseated thing, because it makes me uncomfortable so it's not really a lie. GRRR!
