I'm finally getting around to doing this ![]()
I was scheduled to be induced on the morning of April 7th. Throughout the day on April 6th I noticed I was having some Braxton Hicks contractions on and off. I didn't think much of it since I had been having contractions on and off for weeks with no real labor in sight. Well that night the contractions were getting stronger. I was laying in bed trying to get comfortable and I remember just thinking "ouch, these kind of hurt. I can't fall asleep." So I got up and went downstairs to try to time them. Still, I didn't think anything of them mostly because they weren't THAT painful and they were pretty irregular.
I noticed that when I would stand up and walk about the contractions became stronger. So in a last attempt to actually go into natural labor I started walking around the house. Then BAM painful, regular contractions started to hit me. I was timing anywhere from 3 to 5 min apart for about 15 min. I went upstairs and woke DH up and said "IM HAVING CONTRACTIONS!!!!" He shot up immediatley with his eyes wide open. He began timing them for me while I took a shower. I could barely get through the shower they were so painful. We were timing 2-3 min apart! So I called the doctor and she said if I wanted I could come in.
Well that wasn't a fun car ride but we finally got there. I was in so much pain and the contractions were one on top of the other. I originally thought I wanted to go without the epidural, but that idea went out the window. As soon as I got admitted I asked for the epidural. They checked me and I was 5-6 cm. By the time they gave me the IV and got done asking the same 100 questions I had already answered before, the epidural came about an hour later. It felt like forever.
Got the epi and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Right after that I got checked again and I was already at 9cm! I was comfortable so they let me hang out for a bit until my doctors shift started. The doctor came in a couple hours later and broke my water and had me lay in a certain position to bring the baby down (since she was still floating). I had been high risk for C -section because my doctor thought the baby might not be able to fit through the pelvis.
After a couple hours of this magical position I felt a lot of pressure in a butt area. Doctor came in and had me do 1 push and said this baby was coming out fast. She wanted to deliver the baby in the operating room instead of the delivery room we were in because there was a concern of shoulder dystocia and the doctor said she would have more room to maneuver things if we delivered in the OR.
So off to the OR we went. In about 6 contractions, 15-20 min of pushing, Madelyn was out!!! She weighed 8 lbs 13 oz and was 21.5 inches long. Big big for a small mommy!!!!
Shes been doing great, breastfeeding like a champ! ![]()
