M has been sneezing and last night coughed all night long. This morning she is cranky and still sneezing. She has never had a cold before (I guess with all her early problems someone gave us a hall pass on that) - so I have no idea what the symptoms are for a cold in a kiddo.
Her nasal drainage is clear, and she will play for a little bit, but not as long as she normally does before getting grumpy. She also woke up an hour earlier than normal today.
Re: possible cold?
Sounds like a cold. I don't do anything to treat a cold, I don't do OTC meds or anything. Just let it run its course.
A cold can turn into an ear infection. Their heads are so little, that snot and mucus can get stuck in their ear canals and gets infected. If she suddenly develops a fever, then that's probably what happened. But I always give their body a chance to fight off the infection. I treat the fever with Motrin or Tylenol if they become lethargic or really in pain. If the fever goes on for a few days and they aren't getting better, then I take them into the doctor for antibiotics.
ughs - thanks for the info. stupid easter bunny leaving a virus at our door... blah.
time to get a humidifier i guess...her cough sounds pretty congested.

I was just going to suggest a humidifier. Adley had similar symptoms two weeks ago. The humidifier works wonders. We just let it run its course and used saline spray and the humidifier. A week later she was much, much better.
Just picked one up. (Thank goodness Buy Buy Baby was open today - Target was closed!). Let's hope that it helps! There really is nothing sadder than the sound of a kid coughing.
I read online that some people elevate the crib. Is this safe and/or effective?
