Do you use your study as a study?

We have a study that we don't use as a study.  There is desk and book shelf in there... along with an uncomfortable reading chair, a treadmill and random work out gear that has a few inches of dust on it.  The room is a complete waste in my opinion.  Anyone use that room as a kid/play room?  Or something else?  I'm still trying to figure out how to make our small house seem bigger and use the space we have to the fullest.

Re: Do you use your study as a study?

  • we have a study that i NEVER use but dh uses it every.single.day.  he's a student though so pretty much, the man never stops studying.  once he's finished with school, that might change (at least i hope that this is the case)! :)

  • The study is DH's room to decorate or do as he pleases. If our new house didn't have a children's retreat between the spare rooms, we would turn the formal dining room into a playroom.

  • Hi... missed you at the egg hunt. I've got teething to look forward to soon, too I guess! Fun times ahead! ha ha. I was there and kind of shy about introducing myself but... did meet a few nice gals. What a GREAT park.

Anyhoo... I say GO FOR IT! Turn that study into a playroom. Your livingroom is narrow and a cut through to the back door so... totally hard to keep it toy free. We are turning our unused dining room that was just collecting junk (soon to be yard sale items) into the playroom and I am SOOO psyched. Like others have said... get the IKEA Expedit shelves. We have them already and just have to put them together.

    Good Luck!

  • We turned our study into a playroom. It's nice because it keeps the mess (somewhat) contained instead of having toys all over the living room. I do wish we had gone with the regular door option instead of the glass doors though..I feel like I'm constantly organizing toys because it's the first room you see when you walk into our house.
  • Do what you want to do.  If you don't use the room for anything else, then make use of it girl!!!  We don't have a formal study, but if we did, we would use it for dh's office--but that's because we turned one of the spare rooms into my art studio.  (It's only fair).  It would be nice to have a room just for L to play in, but downstairs we don't really have that option.  So, we just have our family room and toys all over :-p

  • We had a dinning room and we turned it into a formal living room.  When the toys started to overrun the living room, we turned the formal living room into a play room.  It is the best choice ever!

  • Ours is a music room of sorts. Piano, guitars, guitar cabinet, amps, mixing equipment... Soon to be drum set :-/
