s/o photography recc a nice camera

My birthday/mother's day is coming up and I think I want a "nice" camera in addition to the old point and shoot camera I have. I know zip about cameras but would love something that takes beautiful pictures like the ones I see on many of your FB Smile What should I be looking for that is nice but won't break the bank. I am not a professional by any  means. Just a mom who wants great memories of the kid(s).

    I have the Canon Rebel XS and cannot say enough nice things about it. I got it refurbished at www.adorama.com and havent had a problem with it at all.

    I have a Canon Rebel XTi, I LOVE it!  I've had it a while now and wouldn't trade it for anything.

    I also love my Canon Rebel, but if you're not looking to spend that much, there are some really nice P&S cameras out there for less... 

    ETA:  I am not familiar with which ones are good, but hopefully you'll get some good recos

    A higher end point and shoot would work well for your purpose, or the Rebel series DSLR.  I am a Canon girl, and love the Powershot series and the Rebel.
