how do you avoid giving in to cravings?

I've been pretty good most of my pregnancy...I mean I eat more food than before but I balance the healthy with the sweets/fatty stuff...

For about the last week though all I want is junk...McDonalds, chocolate, chips...and I keep giving in!

Any tips on satisfying salty and sweet cravings (not at the same time though I don't like that mix)?

  • Ehh. I am pretty bad at giving in. Luckily a lot of the cravings aren't here at my house so that helps..

  • I have no will power and can really use the tips.  I'm interested in seeing what people suggest.

that's how I've been most of the time too...if I don't buy it at the grocery store I'm good to go...but lately I just grab all sorts of things off the shelf Embarrassed

I think she may be going through a growth spurt too cause I'm hungry all the time! lol

  • I've never had a craving once!! Sometimes I wish I did just so I knew what to eat. I don't like to think about food and when the topic comes up I always tell DH to decide because I never know what I want!! Don't get me wrong, I do eat!! I eat 3 + meals a day, but I just don't like thinking about it for some weird reason. So I envy all of you who got cravings!!  Hmm

  • i just give in.  i guess my only advice is not to bake brownies or cookies, because whenever i do that, i seem to eat the whole batch.

i've also found that some of the foods i crave (e.g., things made with white flour) give me terrible heartburn during pregnancy, so that is incentive to stay away.

  • I'm somewhere between give in and don't have any.  I've found there are certain things that I enjoy more than others, but nothing HAVE TO HAVE.  As for not giving in to temptation, I try not to keep certain things in the house all the time to keep from being 500 pounds.

  • For sweet cravings, I have been loving sweetened, dried cranberries.  They have a lot of sugar, but are high in anti-oxidents (sp?) and fiber.  For salty things, I like the sea salt & pepper mini rice cakes or cottage cheese. :) hope these help!

  • oh we're no suppose to give into all of our cravings... oops Wink  I haven't had too many so it hasn't been too much of an issue.

  • Since I have diabetes I find that it's all about serving size. I can fit most of my crazings in...but not too much of them. I can only have 1 cup of ice cream and that's it...or I weigh out exactly one serving of frosted flakes...you get the idea...I find that I'm pretty satisfied most of the time :) Sometimes you have to say no to yourself and sometimes you have to go to the store and eat half a piece of red velvet cake :)

  • I try to find healthy alternatives that still satisfy what I'm craving- like, fruit and yogurt instead of ice cream or a dark chocolate bar instead of chocolate chip cookies.

Sometimes, though, there's no substitute and I can't stop thinking about cheetos or a blizzard or something. Then I set a time (1 hour, 1 day, whatever) and if I still am desperate for it, I give in :)
