Hi Ladies!
Our EDD is 12/6/11 and I have a ton of questions.
1. as baby is being born in December and we live in Maine is a stroller something we should worry about before baby is born or more as spring arrives?
2. how to keep baby warm while traveling (in and out of car as well as during sleep)?
as this is our first child any help would be greatly appreciated ![]()
Re: Questions from a 12/2011 Mom
Congrats!
1. As for a stroller, personally I would use a travel system that the infant carrier can clip onto. But with it being cold you probably won't get out too much in the beginning.
2. When traveling do not put a heavy jacket on them before you put them in the carseat or it won't snap right and they won't be as secure. I would just put a blanket over them and get one of those covers that have the fleece inside.
The footed sleepers where our primary outfit for the first 2-3 months.
Feel free to stop by with anymore questions!
Yes-we had our stroller before G was born and we used it this winter. But, we live in Oregon-less snow more rain. :-) We used a Bundle Me in G's carseat to keep him warm. Worked great. Also we used a Halo sleepsack to keep him warm while sleeping.
Hi!
DS was born 12/12...
1. We got a Graco travel system, which is the infant car seat/carrier & stroller. We used our stroller a few times in the cold weather b/c we did some last minute Christmas shopping. We didn't start using it a lot till the warmer weather, but it was still good to have from the get-go.
2. We used a J.J Cole BundleMe on the carrier & put a hat on DS. We also draped a baby blanket over the top of the carrier when carrying him in/out of the car.
For sleeping, as a newborn, we kept the hospital hats on him since they fit snugly & were breathable. We dressed him in a onsie as an undershirt & footed PJs. We used SwaddleMe's to swaddle him at night. On extra cold nights, I'd also drape a receiving blanket over his lower half...not directly on him, but draped over the sides of either the bassinet or Rock n' Play.
Good Luck!
All of this! You could also look into a carrier, like an Ergo, Mei Tai or Moby wrap, which can help keep LO warm since they're on you and can wear a jacket. This would be instead of a stroller while at a mall or something.
Congrats!! Come by any time with questions!
Hi and congrats!
I really liked that we had our stroller (graco travel system) and it was ready to go the first time we used it, which was at the mall. I didn't like being cooped up.
I have a cozy cover that goes over the carseat. It works really well. The person who gave it to me said she got it really cheap at walmart.

1. i live in Mass and i recommend getting a travel system. we used our stroller a lot in the first week because we had to go xmas shopping ugh it sucked. we also used our bjorn alot too.
2. jj cole Bundle Me. its essential. im still using mine because the mornings are still chilly. as for night time we used fleece swaddle me's. they keep in LOs body heat. and she wore hats all the time
I would definitely find a stroller that your carseat can pop in and out of. We had the stroller before C arrived and did use it to "mall walk". I might have gone stir crazy otherwise!
We had a cover that popped over the carseat that was fleece on the inside and waterproof fabric on the outseat. We got it as a gift but I know it was the Eddie Bauer brand from Target. Ours only fit over the top with elastic and did not have anything that went between the baby and the carseat back. The kind with the fabric that goes under the baby are being phased out I think because they can't often invalidate your carseat warrenty unless they are a brand that has been tested with your seat. Our LO was a baby heater but we liked the Halo sleepsacks. They have a swaddle option if that works for your LO. Congrats and good luck!
1) I am also in new england. It depends on how much walking you plan on doing whether you'll want a stroller right away. You might want to wait and see. Also it depends on how much you'll take your LO out for indoor activities like grocery shopping. One option is to get a stroller shell/frame that an infant car seat hooks into. We have one and LOVE it. Another option is to forgo the stroller for a while and just use a moby/wrap/carrier for the first few months until LO can use a stroller that's for an older baby. I actually did do some walking around in the snow this winter. My stroller did not do well on the snow, though. But I don't like bulky strollers so I was still happy with what we got rather than something with bigger more off-road wheels.
2) This one is easy. During travel, get one of these carseat cover things that zips over your infant carseat. Do NOT put your LO in a puffy outfit inside the carseat, because s/he needs to strap in safely and it doesn't work with a bulky outfit. Hence the cover. Overnight is also easy. Just use an extra swaddle blanket if LO is cold. But realize that LO might not be so cold afterall. Our DS got a heat rash in the first few weeks of life! He just gets hot more easily than cold. They say put the kid in an extra layer beyond what you'd wear but I find the opposite with my child...maybe that rule of thumb applies to "compared to dad" but NOT mom! Just see how your child is; you'll learn quickly.
Congratulations and good luck! the first few months being stuck inside in the cold avoiding germs can be a little dreary but it's awesome having a 4-6 month old in the spring and summer!
I use a cozy cover as well. They fit over the car seat like a shower cap. I love mine, and they keep LO safe from rain, snow, wind and cold.
We use an Uppa Baby Vista stroller with the chicco car seat adapter. The wheels are nice and big, and plow through snow. (I lived in Maine for a year, so I know what your winters are like.)
I would skip the snap n go. The wheels are tiny and flimsy. They won't last a day in the slush. If you are walking from the parking lot into a store, you are going to probably want to have a stroller. City Mini's with an adapter are also a good choice.
Happy and Healthy 9 months to you. While I was due on the 23rd, my son was born Dec. 6, so it's a great date!
Aww congrats! I am a fellow Maine December mommy! We had our LO a little early though- she decided to come in November. To answer your question:
1. We bought the stroller with a travel system in November. We took our stroller out for the first time at the beginning of April.
2. I got a bundleme- best thing ever. Be careful though- it can be a baby toaster. VERY warm.
good luck! Where do you plan to deliver (if you don't mind me asking)?
Congratulations!
1 - I do think it's worth having a stroller for when your baby is first born. If you ever want to get out of the house, you'll need it. It will be a long time between when you're due and spring time!! I admittedly kept LO indoors for awhile after he was born, except for doctor's appointments, but I still have used my stroller a lot in the past 4 months. It's just now starting to get warm where I am.
I definitely recommend a stroller that you can snap your infant carseat into. If baby falls asleep in the carseat, you'll want to keep him/her in it while you run your errands. I got a hand-me-down Snap N Go from my cousin and I didn't like it that much. I found it difficult to steer. I wish I had gotten an car seat adaptor for my City Mini instead. I love my City Mini.
2 - We didn't put LO in any thick snowsuits or anything because that means he wouldn't be as snug in his carseat and wouldn't be as safe. We would put a blanket around his lower half and we had a shower cap style car seat cover. We don't put anything between LO and the carseat because it's not as safe. At night, we'd put him in a swaddle or fleece sleepsack.
