BF supplies

I'm officially a west coast girl again;)

my mom and I went to target to stock up on some BF supplies, I just want to make sure I'm covered.  should I buy anything else?  I have:

pump + freezing bags

lansinoh soothies

disposable nursing pads

reusable nursing pads

nursing tanks/bras - I bought one of a few different varieties to see what I like best, I'll buy more once I know what I like

lansinoh cream - haven't purchased this yet, but it's the best kind right?

and lily padz silicone nursing pads (has anyone used these?  they weren't cheap so I'll return if they don't get good reviews - sorry no clicky, this mac is not my friend at the moment):

Re: BF supplies

  • I like wearing the lilypadz, however they don't keep the milk in if I'm breastfeeding on the other breast...they also make my nipple really slippery, which is a little bit of a problem with a nipple shield however am not sure if it would be with breastfeeding without one.  I like wearing them at work and with certain shirts/bras, but end up using one of the other nipple pads the same day because I breastfeed when I'm at home.  I guess it depends on your plans as to whether or not they're worth it.

  • How many bottles do you have?  Make sure you have a bra of some sort to sleep in at night. I like to write on my milk bags with a fine point sharpie and I have used the lily padz, but I didn't ever find much use for them.  I think they are marketed towards using them when you are swimming and such.  I can't think of much else you really need.  I never used lanolin or soothies, but I guess you just never know.
  • I actually didn't like the Lansinoh lanolin very well after I started BFing. It was really thick and hard to spread on. The Medela lanolin was much thinner and when my nipples were so sore it was much easier to gingerly dab on than the Lansinoh stuff.

The rest of your list looks very complete! Make sure your nursing bras are big enough. I grossly underestimated just how big my boobs would get once my milk came in and DH was running out to the store in the middle of the night for XL nursing tanks ;)

I have at least 4, if not 5, bottles.  my sister gave me her pump and I just had it checked out by special addition - the lady said it looks great and I should have enough bottles.  and I was thinking I'd wear one of the nursing tanks to bed.

I read about that on some of the amazon reviews - I'll buy some of the medela lanolin, too, to see what works best.

    thanks everyone!

  • Polysporin was another useful item to help with cracked nipples. Amy
