Neck folds...

I clean LO's neck folds every day but they still seem to be red all the time and I'm always finding milk, etc in them. He doesn't act like they bother him but the skin looks so tender to me.  How do you keep them clean?

  • I'm having the same prob and I can't believe how stinky the crud is under LO's neck.

I just try to keep it clean and I put a little of baby aquaphor lotion on it.  It's still red though.  I'm going to ask the pedi Monday.

I know what you mean, it sure looks tender!

  • I don't currently have a baby, but I have had four and have always had the same problem. Other than wiping constantly to keep it clean, I put a small amount of diaper rash cream under there to keep the chaffing down. Hope that helps. Smile

  • DS's neck folds are always red and sometimes rashy. I try to wipe them out daily but they do get stinky! I call it "neck cheese." It's so nasty but it doesn't seem to bother him either. I put vaseline on his neck along with the rest of his body but not sure if that makes a difference either way.

He's growing up, but he'll always be my baby!

  • I use baby wipes. I was told to use diaper rash cream on them too. If you can, find Dr. Smith's for diaper rash. I HIGHLY recommend it. Desitin is too thick, Dr. Smith's is creamier, doesn't glob and smells better. Oh and it's about 2 x's as fast acting as any cream we've used

  • I had major issues with these and it totally cleared up with putting cornstarch powder on them. I just make sure he doesn't breathe it in, and wipe it in all the folds before I dress him.  I felt like using ointments made the skin wetter and therefore, worse. But this totally fixed the stinky neck problem for us, and the skin isn't red and raw anymore.
  • so get this....i dont have a prob with the neck folds...at least i havent yet but the other day in DD's armpit is was red and looked tender, and the night before i had given her a bath and didnt notice this but i lifted her arm up and it stank and was red, i wiped it out and Dr said to put desitin on it which i did, it was better in about 2 days

  • I just wipe his neck with a baby wipe and then dry it with a clean dry wash cloth at every other diaper change. Keeps the gunk levels down and the fact that I dry it off keeps it from getting red and rashy.

  • I use alcohol swabs to clean it because water just smudges it around. It let it dry and then I put Aveeno hydrocortisone cream. Clears up within 2 days.
