What is the difference in braxton hicks and round ligament pain?

I am having little sharp jabs. Feels like round ligament, but this is not on the sides and actually more towards lower center. Not terribly painful or anything just noticing it of course. What is the difference and when does BH typically start. TIA ladies! Happy Saturday :)

  • I just found online that BH is more like a charlie horse or cramp sensation. So it's probably RLP. Makes sense! Little baby bump and he measured 1lb 4 oz yesterday. Needs more room! ;)

  • also, my entire stomach gets hard during a BH.  and yeah, it's more like a cramp than a sharp pain.

  • For me RLP is sharp and painful and only lasts a second and comes on when I do something or move a certain way. BH are not painful at all, they are more pressure-feeling, like my whole ute is a tight ball. They release after several seconds/minutes. Def. not painful, just uncomfortable.

  • My BH's started being noticeable at 13 or 14 weeks. It feels like your abdomen is tightening up. Round ligament pains are sharp, stabbing, and are especially noticeable if you, say, sneeze or cough without bracing yourself first :P

When I get a BH, I can actually feel a knot where my uterus is contracting...

  • Ditto PP, that BH feels like your stomach is tightening.  Some people say their belly gets rock hard, mine never did.  Even w/ real contractions... maybe I just had a nice layer of padding to hide it.  Stick out tongue  I know the baby books say BH are not supposed to hurt, but sometimes they does.  Esp. closer to the end...  For me, BH was all over, where as RL pains were in a u-shape at the bottom of abdomen (like, under my ute).  RL is definitely a sharper, painful feeling; BH is an uncomfortable, slightly painful feeling.

  • I agree with the other ladies who have posted. RLP is a very sharp, stabbing pain. So far my BH haven't hurt - my stomach just feels hard like I ate way, way, way too much Big Smile
