What should a 13month old be saying if anything? Collin does a whole heck of a lot of babbling..he does also say Momma and Dadda...but thats it! Should I be working with him on more words at 13 months old??
TIA

I work at a daycare in the infant/toddler room and we have several 13 month olds that just babble and don't say any words at all. We have one that will be turning 1 in a couple of weeks that says all done, bye bye, and mama. So compared to many of the kids at work, a couple of words is good. I'm sure he will start picking up some more words quickly. Words associated with eating seem to come quickly (i.e. All done and more), as well as hi and bye bye, and of course labels (mama, dada, ball, etc) seem to be some of the first words, at least for the kids at work since I don't have any of my own yet.

DS is almost 14months, and all he really says is mama and dada. We did teach him uh-oh last weekend. He babbles constantly and has "conversations" with us, but other than those 3 words, I have no clue what he's saying.
At daycare, most of the other kids his age aren't saying much (at least not when I'm around), one or two have more words (hi/bye etc). Sometimes I wonder if he's not saying much because his last teachers at daycare spoke in a lot of spanish and english, but his doctor didn't seem overly concerned with his lack of vocabulary at his 12mo checkup.

Oh ya, totally forgot about uh-oh!

Sam was saying just about nothing at 12-13 months. We actually called him Silent Sam. I figured it was because his brother talks all.the.time. so he couldn't get a word in edge-wise.
Around 14 months, he started saying a word or two here and there. And then within a week or two, he went from "Mama" to "I pooped" to "I don't like the chicken." So he knew how to do it all along, he just was being stubborn. No idea where he gets that from. And now, like his brother, he talks all.the.time. They often talk over each other. It's insane.
not too much more than that at 13 months, but remember that as with so many other things, every kid is different. I have a friend whose kids did not say much of anything until they turned two, then they very quickly started speaking almost in sentences. my son hit 15 months and his vocabulary exploded, he now says dozens of words. So it just depends.

Jasp says " mama, dada, and bye " and that is it. Totally normal ! I know that he understands his name and Cameron's and our cats
I think the verbal explosion happens at around 18 months ? Give or take
Thanks for all the input ladies. I couldnt remember if he SHOULD be saying much at all. I will mark talking off my list of things to stress over.
Thanks Again!
