Does anyone have any experience with Uconn fertility?

Hi, I just called UCONN and made an appointment with Dr. Engmann. I tried to get one with Dr. Benadiva, since it seems like he gets a lot of positive reviews, but he was booked too far ahead. I'm really nervous and want this to work very badly- does anyone have any experience with Dr. Engmann?  Thanks!

Re: Does anyone have any experience with Uconn fertility?

  • I see Dr. E. Not sure how much help I can be as I just started with him, and haven't gone through any treatment cycles yet.

Look further down on this board, and you'll find a post about UCONN from a few months ago. There are a couple of others who go/went, including a girl who I believe is currently pregnant and saw Dr. E (I don't remember her name, but I remember thoroughly reading her blog, and she seemed to grow to like him).

    Good luck.

  • Hi!

I can't really speak to Dr. E specifically, I used Dr. Benadiva but I was really pleased with everyone there. I had a particularly rough case that was brought to case review. They didn't give up and I was so blessed to have twin girls. I think you will be happy with which ever doctor you see.

    Best of luck!!

  • I don't have any experience with Dr. Engmann either.  I'm currently seeing Dr. Benadiva but have heard/read great reviews regarding all the doctors in the practice.  There is a post from back in February about Uconn Fertility as well.

  • I honestly can not say enough wonderful things about Dr. Engmann. He truly is our own miracle worker! My husband and I started seeing him early last summer and though our first two IUI's were unsuccessful (we knew they would be, but sadly had to play the "insurance game"), our first IVF was a success! We're beyond ecstatic to be expecting our lil lady this summer.

While I worked with several of the other doctors at UConn (weekend appts, etc) Dr. E was sooo supportive of us. He's truly the first doctor I've ever had that actually called me himself, after office hours, to discuss my concerns. When our first ultrasound was a bit scary, he made sure that I wasn't officially released to my OB until I was comfortable moving on. (Though I jokingly asked if he could just be my OB!)

Feel free to read my blog and/or email me with any questions! (I'll PM you my email address!)  GOOD LUCK!!

  • Hi, Yes, Dr. Engmann was my doctor at UCONN and he was wonderful. We had a baby boy 2 years ago thanks to his help and team.  They were always very kind and patient, and took the time to explain all the details to me and my husband.  He even made a personal call to my husband to express the importance of his participation in something my husband thought was NOT so important.  Good luck. Jamie
  • Thank you very much for all your kind reply.

I have scheduled an appointment with Dr. Engmann for this month. I will definitely keep up with my status. Wish good luck to myself:)))

  • I have actually been through 4 cycles of IVF at Uconn and dr. Nulsen is my doctor but I have seen all the docs there and they have all been great! I am finally 8 months pregnant with a baby girl and I am due in early June. I would recommend Uconn to anyone and if I decide to do it again in the future would definitely go back to Uconn for further treatments. Good Luck on your journey!
  • Hi

I got pregnant w Dr. Benadiva after second IUI. Just want you to know, that they go by the same scheme and you would see the doctor for the initial visits - the first to review your history, the second to review the tests results and pick the treatment plan. The rest was done by nurse or other people (first IUI was done by my nurse, second by another doc). I think no mather who you would pick you would get the same good atention and care. I had my nurse phone number and she would call back to aswer all my questions. Finantial advisor was wery helpfull too. Yale and UConn has very similar rates, I picked UConn cause of  geografic location.

    Good luck!

,,,it took two years to get there,,,

Just an update- I had my first IUI with Dr. Engmann and it worked! I'm 12 weeks pregnant. Thanks for all the support and advice!
  • I saw Dr. Benadiva.  He isn't exactly Mr. Personality, but he knows his stuff and he is a good doctor.  His nurse Helen is awesome too and she is the one that you will speak with most of the time.  I ended up getting pregnant on my own.  Good luck!
  • This is probably way too late now... (I hope - that is, I hope you are pregnant by now!).

If you are still wondering, I went there and ended up with a gorgeous baby girl and amount to embark on my second child... yikes!!

We went with Dr. Nulsen and he is wonderful. Great Doctor, explains everything so well and we couldnt be happier. Not just with the outcome, but with the whole center.

Everyone is lovely - even admin staff are wonderful (except the Brittish admin lady - she can be snotty sometimes... not my fav). Sue the financial lady is just incredible.

Cant recommend the center enough - and try Dr. Nulsen if you are not happy with others as he is truly the best!!

    Good luck!!

  • I have heard great things about them there.
  • Hi I know it is 2 years since you posted this message but I just wonder if you could provide more info about dr Nulsen.
  • @mala2503 I am also a patient of Dr Nulsen, let me know if I can help answer any questions!

  • I have been seeing Dr. DiLugi and absolutely love her and everyone there at the UCONN facility. My husband and I have been going since May and just completed our first IVF. Our first blood test is in a few days but I feel great. She is so supportive and very optimistic about the whole process. I highly recommend them and her.
  • My husband and I have been going to Dr. Engmann since February.  We went straight to IVF and he was very confident that we would conceive the first time.  I just found out last week that I am pregnant. :)  We have been trying for close to two and a half years and it has finally happened!

Dr. Benevida did my retrieval and Dr. Nulson did the transfer.  All of the doctors have rotating surgery days so you may not necessarily have Dr. Engmann perform the procedures.  I will say though, that I have not had a bad experience with anyone at The Center, including the nurses and front office staff.

I definitely recommend both The Center and Dr. Engmann to anyone!!
  • Love Dr. Engmann! He is so nice and everyone who works there always says he's one if the smartest people they know. Everyone is super nice there, the nurses who draw blood in the mornings make it quick and painless, and the receptionist you check in with for ultrasounds is so sweet! They all seem to love their job and you really feel like they want nothing more than getting people pregnant! Best of luck!
  • @SarahA918 Hi, I am curious if you ever had an IUI at the center? I only ask because I am in the process of IUI #!2 but wanted to ask a couple specific questions if you had been through one at the center! Thanks!

IVF Seminar meeting on 6/12 & then meeting with RE on 7/9 to come up with our plan for our miracle baby!

  • Very nervous about my first appointment at UCONN fertility coming up on June 9.  My husband and I have been ttc for a year and a half now.  I'm pretty sure I have PCOS.  We went through 3 rounds of clomid with my OBGYN, but I ended up having my ovaries get overstimulated and had 2 cysts rupture!  (not fun).  I called UCONN and am excited to get the ball rolling...but I'm also extremely nervous.  I am overweight, and I would say my biggest concern is that they will laugh in my face and turn me away.  I'm trying to lose weight, but I guess I'm just a mixutre of emotions.  Ready to go in for my first apt...but incredibly nervous as well.

  • @WantABaby123 Welcome aboard! I have been going to UCONN since last October after trying for about a year and half. Our diagnosis is MFI. Do you know which doctor you are seeing? As far as weight is concerned I too am overweight by quite a bit, most of which I gained over the past year of not getting pregnant but my husband and I are really motivated to drop these pounds so we can move forward with IVF. Our RE has been very supportive with our weight loss efforts and honestly extremely sensitive and much more gentle then I thought they would be regarding it.

I am not an expert by any means with UCONN but I can help answer any questions that you may have feel free to private message me!

Also, I am not sure if you have checked out the Trouble TTC board, they are super helpful and very supportive. I like the CT board but I find it hard to contribute sometimes since we haven't conceived. There are numerous girls on the TTTC board with PCOS.

    Good luck with your appointment!

  • Okay! Freak out time....someone please help answer my question?!?  I am going on Monday to my first appointment and was watching the video on their website for what to expect on your first visit.  I didn't realize they needed the paperwork 2 weeks before my appointment.  I haven't sent it in and my appointment is in 3 days.  It is all filled out, but I want to make sure they are still going to take me.  I plan on calling them tomorrow and then faxing it right over so they will receive it before my appointment.  Anyone else have this happen to them?

  • Sure you took care of it but I can't imagine they wouldn't see you because of it. Pretty sure mine wasn't looked at until the day before my appt!

  • Hey! I am new to the forum and currently 22 weeks pregnant with a baby boy, thanks to the magic of medicine from UCONN.  We used Dr.Nulsen and I can answer any questions you need.  IVF was successful on the first shot -- and they only implanted one embie (6 are now frozen).

My entire process is on my website clearedtoland14.weebly.com including youtube videos.  They may be helpful to you :)  Good luck! You will LOVE the front secretary Holly :)
