Make me feel better.. no more BFing

Say "here" if you had good intentions of BFing for awhile but stopped for whatever reason.  No explanation needed, just want to know I'm not alone.  :(  I stopped at 7 weeks.  It sucks but we couldn't find another way.

Re: Make me feel better.. no more BFing

  • HERE.

I planned on BFing for 9 months, couldn't get her to latch. Broke down in tears several times over the guilt. Ended up pumping for almost 2 months then quit that. I felt guilty at first, but having the freedom to leave the house for more than 3 hours at a time is so worth it. I still have a month of frozen breastmilk and she's doing more than great at 85th percentile. So don't feel guilty if it saves your sanity and your baby is healthy. Life after pregnancy is not at all what we expected is it?

  • I really thought I would BF for atleast 6 months but ds hada terrible time latching  and my milk just wasn;t coming in enough. I felt so guilty at first but then happy because I was able to finally relax when I stopped. Don;t beat yourself up, happy mama=happy baby!

  • Thanks ladies.  It's a shame b/c he latched and I had supply, but he has food allergies.  I quit dairy for 3 weeks but he did not improve enough.  Maybe I needed to quit soy, too (I wish the pedi would have told me that) but we had to get him stable (blood in his stool) so I couldn't try that and give it more time.  I have 250+ ounces in the freezer he will never be able to drink.

  • Here. I planned on BF at least 6 months, but hoping for a year. A really bad latch made us go to only pumping at 2/3 weeks. She is now 2 months and we're weaning her onto formula over the course of a month. I have about 130 oz in the freezer and I'm slowly weaning off the pump so she's still getting that as well. I felt really guilty when I made the decision, but I can't express how good it felt to have that first day going more than 2/3 hours between pumping. As pp said, baby is healthy and I'm retaining my sanity.
  • Yep, I really don't miss pumping.  I have really, really enjoyed my final days of maternity leave just focusing on baby and not pumping, washing pump parts, drying pump parts, assembling pump parts, worrying if I would get enough pumped before LO wakes up and/or starts crying....  And I won't be sad I don't have to pump at work.

Unfortunately, my boobs already shrank.  I feel flat now.

  • Yep, here. I did it for 4 weeks and in just that short span of time I had mastitis twice. The dr. told me I'd probably continue to get it over and over as long as I continued - I was losing my sanity.

  • Here!  stopped at 10.5 weeks.  It was very upsetting.

It was going so well too, but they kept finding he had food intolerances, so first they had me give up Dairy, then Soy,  then Eggs,  next would have been Wheat, but I was starving all the time.  Granted, it did help lose the baby weight.  Now the poor LO is on prescription formula. Thank god insurance covers it in full, or we would be broke!

  • Here!

I had such great intentions of BFing DS for the first 6 months. I was going to be one of those power pumping working moms, taking pump breaks during the work day and bringing home an awesome supply to freeze and leave with MIL. Well... I barely made enough milk for DS alone, and never was able to freeze any BM at all. I finally gave up around the 4 week mark, felt guilty for a while, and then got over it. Smile I still have pangs of guilt sometimes, but DS and I are both so much happier now that he's FF. Hang in there!

  • Here.

DS was in NICU so I had to pump for a few weeks before he learned to nurse.  We had issues with latching on, but I had a great supply at first.  Then he was discharged and my supply tanked.  I tried a little of everything, but he was frustrated, I was frustrated and just so tired from trying to nurse, pump, wash parts, no sleep, etc.  I finally stopped a couple of weeks ago.  I did have a freezer stash from when he was in NICU, but that is gone now.  I'm just now getting over my guilt, but I am grateful he had milk while he was in the NICU.  Overall he had 2 months of my milk so that is better than nothing.
