My friend's 2 year old son was a biter and put everything in his mouth. Eventually she tried having him wear a nursing necklace. She taught him that it was his special necklace to chew on or bite and it really decreased the biting. Sorry, I can't remember if I told you about this before. Of course, my first thought was choking hazard since it was a regular looking necklace, but the child was always supervised with it and started wearing it after age 2. She was okay with it. Just a thought...
Hers was similar to this...it was heart-shaped and was a material safe for mouthing/teething. This is one I found when I did a search:
Thank you! I am just so excited to have a freaking name to what we are dealing with. Right now we are telling him to bit his lovey but that thing is in his mouth all the time now. I also got some activities for him to do. I really hope we can decrease the bitting, I am losing my mind over it.
I'm sorry you are dealing with this. Did his SLP help you identify it? I thought DS had it when we first started his evals but he wasn't a biter and didn't mouth things that weren't food. He overstuffed his mouth with food and would gag/vomit. But that went away as soon as his molars came in.
I'm glad you've been given some tools to deal with it.

Yep, his SLP had said it might be it a few months ago but we quickly dismissed it because he stoped bitting, and wasn't mouthing things as much. Then I tossed all the pacies in the house. He "was just chewing on them" I told my husband, and the bitting started back almost ASAP. It took the last 2 months to put one and one together. He is also getting his last 2 of the 2 yr molars, so he is in pain. I went to babies r us and bought my 2.5 yr old pacies and chew toys today. I am hoping this helps.
