Trouble TTC

Anyone having TTTC but not ready for IUI/IVF yet?

Mh DH and I have been trying since May/June 2010.  I am 29, DH is 30.  We have gone through all testing with RE and have been diagnosed with slight MFI.  We are currently seeing a urologist for DH's low sperm count.  DH was put on fertility blend and may possibly have to be put on progesterone and have surgery for two small varicoceles.  Weare not quite ready to move to IUI and I am looking for someone in the same situation to talk to.

Re: Anyone having TTTC but not ready for IUI/IVF yet?

  • I am so sorry that you are going through MFI.  There are a lot of ladies that have gone through the same thing you are going through now, myself included.  I am glad you are not jumping right into IUI because there is a lot a urologist can do that might help.  With having slight MFI the vitamins might help enough that you can get pg on your own.  I would give that time to take effect and then try more on your own.  The waiting game sucks but it will be worth it if you can get pg without iui or ivf.

  • Me!

Sounds like our MFI is a lot more severe than yours though. But we are still waiting a few more months until we take the plunge into IVF.

Actually, we are currently thinking about buying a microscope so we can monitor DH's sperm count ourselves.  I have heard a number of people have success with this, because you can figure out what the optimal abstinence time is, and figure out if vitamins/lifestyle changes are helping... and the microscope is about the price of 2 SA's so it would pay for itself quick. (See here: https://www.fertilityformen.com/)  Some dudes just have a different ideal abstinence time than is normal, kind of like we have different cycle lengths.

A little weird, right? but really no weirder than him making a "deposit" into a cup in a doctor's office full of dirty magazines... also, some guys have way better counts by doing things "the old fashioned way" and in a home setting.

Severe MFI. Me: supposedly all clear but eggs showed vacuoles.

IVF #1 January 2012, ER Jan 14th: 34R, 27M, 23F. Day 3: 18 embies still strong. Day 5: zero "good," one "fair," the rest "poor." Transferred 3. None made it to blast or to freeze. Jan 28: BFN.

Lucky IVF #2: Transferred two beautiful day three embies on St. Patrick's Day. BFP on HPT 7dp3dt. Beta 1 (14dpER)=106; Beta 2 (16dpER)=140; Beta 3 (19dpER)=264! First u/s 4.17.

Wow! Thanks for that info.  I am totally going to check that out.

OP, the decision of when to start treatment is a totally personal one.  Dh and I have tried for about two years (with one miscarriage).  But now we know we are ready to move on.  I have lost all hope of having a baby with just normal sex.  I think we needed to accept and mourn that loss before we could move on.  Anyway, I think there are plenty TTTC women here who are not doing fertility treatment yet.  Good luck!

Baby N conceived after 1 miscarriage and more than 2 years of TTC. Diagnosis was low sperm count. We found success after 3 months of anastrozole to increase DH's testosterone and one IUI.

  • DH has had 3 SA's...Morph ranged from 5-10% concentration from 11-17mm; progression from 2-4, and motility 24%, 55%, 58%...its all over teh place but the urologist wasn't too concerned.  Not sure how this compares.

Looks like count is slightly low, morph is normal, motility is usually normal. Don't know about progression.  But it's not too bad.  There's no reason you can't keep trying.

  • Me! We're going through some testing right now, but all signs are pointing towards unexplained infertility. We're not in a place to start treatments right now. It's expensive and we just bought a house and I'm not sure that I'm emotionally ready to handle that roller coaster yet. So for now, we are just going to sit in limbo for a while. GL!
  • But I don't know if we would do surgery when his numbers are so close to normal anyway.

the urologist suggested it if we want to have more than one...he said as my DH ages the varicocele may get worse.  We will take a few months before we decide to go ahead with the surgery.

Hmm, interesting. I know some people on here have had the surgery, so I'm sure you can get more info from them.  But I think I have heard the surgery might not always increase count...

I'm not to that phase yet. We're still in the infancy of the Clomid cycles.

I'm sorry you're having to go through this. There are quite a few ladies on here who are dealing with MFI too. I hope they can give you some advice/guidance. GL

Thank you so much!!  I am so happy to recieve any support/advice.

  • I don't post often, but we are a similiar boat. My DH is having a second SA on Tuesday because his first had low morph. I've only had CD3 b/w done that was normal, and we are scheduled to have a follow-up with my GYN in two weeks. I have a feeling she'll be referring us to the RE, but we aren't sure if we're ready for that yet. I am going back to school and won't be finished with a strenuous Masters of Nursing program until Spring 2014. We really feel like we need to get thru that before we start what might be a long journey with IF, ya know? For financial, mental, physical, and emotional reasons...  so, we figure we'll just keep trying naturally until then.

  • I'm sorry about the MFI diagnosis.  I'm also not ready for IUI/IVF yet.  It's a personal decision that you and your DH have to make.  Good luck with your upcoming cycle!
