RNP

I just bought one of these last night after reading everyone raving about them.  I tried it out last night and my son only slept for like 30 min.  I'm trying it again now and it seems like he's not really liking it.  He'll be a month old on Sunday and he's been sleeping in his bouncer everynight or on me.  He hates being flat on his back so the pnp didn't work.  Is this something he just has to get used to?  How did your LO's do when you first tried the rnp?  Did it take them a few nights to get used to it?  I'm in desperate need of some sleep.

Re: RNP

  • I put a folded towel in between the hard plastic base and the cover just to take the edge off. DS has slept comfortably in it ever since.

  • I'm sorry your LO is not taking to the RnP very well.  I'm really no help, because DD liked it right away.  I use it as is without the straps.  Hang in there!  Maybe because it's new he needs a few nights to become adjusted.

  • like PPs said, I use a blanket to soften the base and don't use the straps.  I usually put him in when he's wrapped up (but not quite swaddled) in a blanket so he keeps his body heat in and the base feels softer.  He sleeps the best when he's cozy, so sometimes I squish a blanket around his legs and sides too.  It's no miracle for us (yet) but he does seem to like it more than a flat bassinette or crib. GL!

  • DS liked it for about 2 weeks (when he was 2 weeks old until a month) then he wouldn't take it anymore. He wouldn't sleep on his back in ANYTHING... So we gave in and he is s tummy sleeper now!

  • Have you tried having them sleep in the carseat? It's about the same angle at the RNP. Our LO has been in the RNP since she was born and is now a month. Might take a few days to get used to it if they werent inclined before. Good luck!
