first diaper rash -- help!

Hello my dears -- long time, no post -- I know.

L has decided to get her first diaper rash and it's obviously really bothering her as she starts diggin' for gold the second her diaper comes off.  I've tried CA baby diaper rash cream and Grandma El's and it hasn't gotten significantly better yet. I also put GSE in her diaper wipe solution.

Any ideas or things I can try?  I feel so bad for her little bottom and itchy lady bits : (

Thanks!

ETA: we do CD -- so I'm looking for CD safe or I do own some disposable liners

Re: first diaper rash -- help!

  • What does the rash look like? Is it just red or is it pimply?

For sure keep her really dry and let her air out if possible.

  • I'm going to guess because of her age it's food related.  In our house, that's generally been the cause.  It can cause an immediate flair up.  Try to change often, if you need to rinse her bottom of in the sink and pat dry.

I use EMAB butt balm, just be sure to get her bottom fully clean, and fully dry before putting the next diaper on.  I find that if I keep on top of it, it's gone quickly.  I just have to figure out what I fed her, which can be an issue :

    Good luck!

  • The rash is bumpy and a little red -- really red once she gets at it.  I'm worried to let her air out too much as she can't keep her hands out of it as soon as the diaper is off (even in the bath) and I'm sure that's just making it worse.

I thought maybe it was related to teething -- she cut her 3rd tooth this week but it's not improving since the tooth came through.

When it was food related was it due to introducing a new food?

  • We are dealing with our first rash too.  I think it may be food related, I just gave her mango for the first time and it showed up right after she pooped. We are trying Grandma El's right now and I also read online that breast milk can be used for rashes (but not yeast rashes).  Anyone else heard of this and does it work?

It totally can. I've done it Big Smile

I'd just give as much naked time as possible. I haven't really had any success with creams (CD safe or otherwise). The best thing is to have naked time and try to distract so as not to cause too much scratching. You could try some cream with fleece liners - the disposable liners will not protect your CDs from cream. The cream will go right through them.

I've heard lots of women rave about CJs Butt-er or something like that. Abby's Lane has it I believe. It's CD safe

  • Coconut oil works great for us and is CD safe!  We have a red bottom due to teething right now and I slather a little coconut oil on DD a couple times a day and before bedtime and it's usually not red at the next change.  It's anti-bac and anti-fungal!
