Frequent potty trips?

My son is almost 4 and has been potty trained since before he was 2 (of which I take no credit, he figured it out himself overnight!) We have never had potty problems, until recently.  For the past week or so he will go pee 5+ times an hour.  He will race to the bathroom as if he is going to pee his pants, and then not much comes out when he gets there.  I am not sure if this is just something he is doing to be "funny" or if he may have some kind of problem (diabetes!?)  I plan to call his doctor tomorrow about it, but thought I would check in here and see if anyone of your LO's have done this.

    It sounds like it might be a urinary tract infection.  Def. call his dr tomorrow.

    I agree. Sounds like a UTI since he doesn't pee. Both of my brothers have type 1 diabetes (one got it when he was 7, the other at 17) and they peed A TON and drank tons of water and lost a lot of weight. All of that happened during a really short period of time. They also go really angry because their blood sugar levels were wayyy extreme and we had no idea. So if your son is having to pee, but not peeing, it's more likely something else. I'm glad you're on top of it and calling the Dr. GL!

    My daughter just went to the 24 hour clinic last weekend for a UTI.  Its not contagious is it?!  So weird to have both of them with UTI's?  I didnt even know boys could get them.  I will be anxious to see what the doctor says, thanks for the replies.

    No, they're not contagious.  It is less common for boys to get UTI's because a boy's urethra is longer than a girl's and it's easier to get bacteria and germs from the digestive system near a girl's urethra than a boy's.
