Hi Ladies,
I just received the worst email. A friend of mine who battled Breast Cancer 3 years ago found out the cancer is back and it has spread to her liver. I'm just speechless. I feel so helpless and numb. She is starting a very aggressive round of chemo this weekend. I'm so scared for her and her husband.
She is an amazing and strong woman and her husband is the absolute sweetest man you could ever meet and he has been through so much loss over the past two years. First his best friend - also a friend of mine and DH's - took his own life while going through a messy divorce. Then, his father suffered a massive heart attack while on a business trip and passed away. And now this horrible news.... how much tragedy is one couple supposed to take?
Anyway, I want to put together a care package for them but I can't think of what I could put in it. I'm not really thinking straight right now, but I want to get this done this weekend. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks for your help ladies.
Re: Sad...need some advice.
I am so sorry about your friend...that is terrible.
I would maybe just put together a pampering basket for her with yummy bath items, some lotion and candles. Also, a couple of girly magazines maybe?
Or I always love cheerful flowers too with a card that just lets them know that you are thinking of them...

SAIF/PAIF Welcome
Lots of love and luck to my PAIF/3T/IF Veteran ladies, especially my dear friend Zookie. Congrats to Papps, Teach84 and Starbuck on their little ones.
I might do some giftcards to places they like to eat at. That way, if she is not feeling well, she won't have to cook and he can get a break, too. Spa day? Movie tickets? Just something for them to get away from reality.
I am so sorry they are going through this and lots of ((hugs)) to you.
Oh hun. I am so sorry. It does seem like life isn't fair at all sometimes. I'm sending them prayers during all of this.
As for a care package, maybe DVDs, itunes gift cards, a netflix subscription, unscented lotion, scarves, food gift cards for places near the hospital, magazines, books, a journal.
Those are just a few ideas.
ETA: Unscented items are always best because chemo can really whack out their sense of smell.

All excellent ideas ladies- thank you so much!
And Cookie Queen, thank you for letting me know about the unscented stuff - I had no idea that scented items might be too much for her.
You all ROCK!!!
I'm really sorry about your friend...it is so hard to watch.
My friend's sister is 38 and has been battling stage 4 genetic BC for over a year. The treatments have not worked and it has spread to her skin and lungs. She is supposed to get married in June but they are not sure what will happen.
Anyway, I will occassionally make her a casserole and send it over or muffins or her favorite iced tea. I also got her a care package with slippers, a travel pillow and an eye mask for traveling to her OOT Dr. and for when she has chemo. I also incleded an itunes goft card with suggestions for some really calming ocean sounds "songs" that I use. Someone else made her a blanket.
(((hugs))) I'm so sorry and will keep your friend in my T + P.
I am so sorry you have to go thru this. ::huge hugs::
My moms bff found out last October she had cancer in her Appendix (very rare), when she found out I sent her a card and flowers. She really appreciated it. She just went thru major surgery and is doing fine now. We sent her some get well cards as well as she wasnt up for eating much.
A care package - I second the girly stuff -- maybe nail polish, body lotion, lip gloss, chapstick, even socks
, magazines, note cards, a gift cert to a local resturant so they dont have to cook/prepare a meal.
::hugs::

I'm really sorry to hear about your friend.
That news is never easy to get.
Are they close by? Could you make some freezer meals for them?
I think the cozy bath things are a good idea. Magazines and/or books? They will probably have a lot of down time, sitting around waiting for appointments.
((((Hugs))))
