So, here it is.. we are doing our second annual March of Dimes, March for Babies walk on 4/30 in honor of our Haleigh, as most of you know. I have about 25-30 people that will be walking with us and then a big BBQ at our house afterwards.
So, this is the deal. I hurt my foot about 8 months ago and was in a boot (and crutches) for 3-4 months. Basically, I have two bones where I should have one and it causes a lot of irration and pain. I don't think I can walk the walk. I will have 25-30 people walking and I won't??? That is horse sh!t! How can I ask them to wake up at 7am and walk 6 miles in honor of our baby girl and all those other babies that need MoD's help ... and I not be there? Of course I will show up in the morning... but then go home? It just sucks.
I guess I could technically try to walk it - but it is like a 90% guarantee that I would end up in the dang boot again...and doing the whole boot thing takes months to get out of - not to mention, last time crutches - for a month. I guess I could do the 1 mile and then, what, tell everyone I will meet them back at my house afterwards and peace out??!!??
I feel like a total @sshole..... Not to mention, I WANT to walk for my daughter. It is a healing experience and quite frankly, I could use some healing.
Suggestion?
Re: I feel like a total, utter jerk!
Wheelchair, skates?
I think for your safety and health unless you can find a way to walk without hurting your foot, then you will have to bow out. I totally understand your frustration and that you need to walk, but you cannot make yourself worse.
I say, rent a wheelchair and make it a game have everyone take turns pushing you.
#1 - you have to do what is best for your foot and your healing. Period.
#2 - I totally think you should rent a wheelchair! We can all help with the pushing, and that way you can still be there and enjoy the walk/ride. Plus we can all hang our bags on your handles and basically make you hold our stuff = bonus!
#3 - no one is going to judge you for not being able to walk - it is what it is and its not like you hurt your foot on purpose!
Listen to her, she's a smart lady. No one wants to see you get more hurt and anyone who cares enough to walk with you will understand why you can't walk. {{HUGS}}
