what if something happens? Ugh. I hate hiding it, but I don't want to tell too early. (If it would affect your decision at all, my absence in the fall will have a direct influence on decisions my boss is making right now). Sorry for typos, on my phone
Re: Would you tell?
Most women I know wait until 12 weeks. That's only one more week for you.
I told my boss at 8 weeks. We're pretty close, and I was having some early pg symptoms that were affecting my work slightly (like having to pee every half an hour - ha!), so I went ahead & told him. It was a few more weeks before the rest of work found out.
I just wanted to tell him myself, as opposed to him (or others) guessing or the rumor mill starting up, you know?
GL!
Since you think this will impact decisions your boss is making, I'd try to let him/her know today (via phone if you can't get a meeting). Just mention that you'd prefer to have the conversation in person and after you're further along in the pregnancy, but you wanted them to be able to make informed decisions. Ask if they can keep the info private until you feel comfortable sharing with the rest of the team.
I was forced to tell my boss earlier than I planned because I ended up needing surgery at the start of the 2nd trimester. I just let her know that I wanted to keep it private until we were sure the baby was ok, and everything turned out fine. She really appreciated that I was upfront with her.
