Preschool "Spring" Party - urgent question/WWYD?

L's spring party (aka Easter party) is tomorrow.  The parents are all bringing food/drinks/paper goods etc. and I'm good on that front.

BUT it just occurred to me that maybe I'm supposed to be bringing little gifts or treats for all the kids in the class to take home.  If I don't 'have' to I won't, but I don't want my girl to be the only one without something for her friends.

I need a manual for these kinds of things.

WWYD/Bring?

  • I don't think you need to do anything for a spring party.  Garrison had an Easter Egg hunt and his teacher sent home a note that we needed to send in 12 candy filled Easter Eggs.  His party was food and inviting family and some art projects.  In Kindergarten I asked for candy filled eggs for our hunt.  Some parents sent in things like goodie bags and it was total over kill!  The kids went home with 25 eggs and 3 goodies bags... it was way too much.  I was specific in asking for the donations that were needed and the other things that came in were because the parents wanted to do that.

  • Thanks Ang! You made me feel MUCH better.  I didn't even think about just using plastic eggs and putting something in them - I went right to "what handmade thing should I try to throw together tonight!"  Maybe I'll just hit the store and buy some eggs and stickers and have them at the ready if needed :)

And I guess I should say that I know this isn't REALLY an urgent issue, but it felt like it when I realized it is almost 6pm, I have 1.1 million things to do tonight and might need to add 24 gifts to my to-do list.

  • The first thing that popped into my head was Easter eggs.  Will there be an egg hunt?  If so, I'd think the teacher would let you know ahead of time and ask each parent to send a dozen eggs with their child.  That's what happened at my son's school, and they had an egg hunt.  I sent 12 plastic Easter eggs that we had from last year, with random items inside that we had around the house (mostly leftover party favor type stuff).  Every other egg he brought home had candy inside though.

But you definitely don't need gifts - I'd only send eggs if you know there's going to be a hunt.

  • Ditto the eggs.  I've had to bring things for Halloween and Valentine's day.  I usually hit the dollar rack at Target and find holiday themed pencils, erasers, stickers etc.
  • Some kids might, but it's usally the overachiever mom that does the guilt-inducing goodie bag. In our case, it's Jade's mom.  Jade's mom makes a goody bag for everyone practically for it just being Tuesday.  It's very, very nice but a litle overkill in Jade's case.  :)

I am sending Peep treats and you can bet your bazookas those will go HOME with the kids, the teachers won't let the,m have them at school.  But that's my thing, right?  Also sending a veg tray & they are boiling/decorating eggs they asked that he come with one raw egg (uh, good luck with that!).

    Hope L has a blast!!!
