My dog is stoned.

Re: My dog is stoned.

  • DH just updated.  The vet said to just keep an eye on the dog and to call back if anything changes with him.  For now he's fine.  Stoned, but fine.  Here's to hoping for an uneventful night.

I just hope your brother takes better care to hide the cookies so that it isn't one of you kids next time....

  • Checked in with my semi-vet (he's a DVM in Arizona and I'm in CT so I abuse his brain for random questions like when it's 1:00 am and I find a raccoon in my house with my two freaked out cats).  For what it's worth he says dog should be ok and may have munchies later.

Since this wasn't straight pot, the chances that the dog will be fine are better, BUT I think it is dangerous for someone to say that everything will be fine when they don't know the situation.  It is better to be cautious. This is a very small dog and before it was stated that the dog vomited, I think the risk of complications was much higher. I still think that the dog is at risk of having serious effects based on how he is acting.

True.  But since OP had already had a consult from her vet when my friend got back to me I just gave him the short version and didn't get into nitty gritty details.  Had she not had heard from her vet I would have asked for more in depth info from him.

  • Wouldn't it be great if the experience turned your pup off cookies forever? But it probably won't! Why oh why can't the pups be reasoned with!?

We've called and left a message for the ER vet.....which is really just the vet's office and someone check's the voicemail every couple hours.

My brother has texted a friend of his who's a vet too.  We're just waiting to hear back.

I'm sure this will be something we laugh at tomorrow or the next day, so long as he's okay.

Is it just me; or am I the only one not seeing anything humorous about this situation.  Why is it funny at all. Maybe you should not have a pet if you are not responsible enough to have one and take care of them.

I don't really see what the OP did that was irresponsible.  Accidents happen.  It's not like she fed her dog pot cookies on purpose.  She didn't even know they were in the house.  And her husband has brought the dog to the vet and is following the vet's instructions.

OP - do you have an update?  Is pup feeling more like himself?

What kind of cookies were they?  I'd do some googling to see if there was any vet offices open around.  I hope he's ok.

I don't think this really matters. They were special cookies.....

OP- I hope everything turns out okay.

Well in a way it does....if they contained a lot of chocolate!

  • I hope your pet was okay!?? I did learn when my dog who is 12 pounds got into a renter's room and ate a bag of malt balls the vet told me to give him hydrogen peroxide about a teaspoon to make him vomit it up. And he did..all night long. But at the end of the day I  knew it wasn't in his system for long and he was okay

  • I can tell you one thing.  The fact that you have a young daughter and your brother came over and left cookies that have pot in them out in the open would be enough for me to kick him out of my house and NEVER let him stay over again.  I am really sorry for your dog, and I agree that this isn't funny at all.  In no way is this your fault, but if this were me, I wouldn't allow my brother to stay in my house again (at least until I could trust him) for bringing that into my house.  I'm glad your dog is okay but you just never know what could have happened.

Emu... I totally agree with you. WTH would your brother bring drugs into your home when you have young children, and why would you continue to let him stay with you after you found out?  Especially in cookie form, and why were you so irresponsible to leave cookies in a place that your dog could get them.  If you dog could get them, then your child could get them.  I have no respect for people who allow drugs into their home, especially when they have young children.

  • I'm with the other posters who don't see the humor in this. There is so much fail in this situation. Especially because it could very easily have been your child.
