Re: wierd question

  • Not personally, no.  I do know that there were 3 a while ago at one of our local hospitals - only two were VBACs, though.  Both mother & baby had great outcomes in all 3 cases.

  • I don't personally know someone but I believe there is someone on The Bump who did have a rupture during a VBAC.  But I have met MANY VBACers in real life who delivered with no complications.

  • I know a few women in person that experienced a UR while trying for a VBAC, and I know dozens of women in person that had successful VBACs.  But understand that UR's can happen to women with no c/s history.  And UR's can have very different outcomes depending on a variety of factors, so while someone may know a woman who had a UR... it does not change the statistics.  The odds are still very much in your favor!

FWIW, I would have preferred to find a provider for my VBAC before I was pregnant again.... That would have lowered my anxiety a ton!  GL and HTH!

  • When the rate of rupture is less than 1:100, it would be pretty unlikely to have met someone who had a rupture.  I don't think I know a 100 people that have had a c-section.

Ditto.  There is a poster who posts occasionally on here who had a rupture.  She's the only one I've ever seen on TB who had one.

In real life, I only know 3 or 4 people who've tried to have a VBAC at all, so that's nowhere near a large enough sample size for something that happens so rarely.

Exactly. I don't personally know anyone who has had a rupture, but I also don't know of many who have had VBACs either. I have seen several failed, but several successful VBACs--more successful than non-successful. :) I have worked in three states, in five different hospitals, so I have seen many deliveries.

Stats say with 2 years btwn pregnancies, your chances of rupture are as low as a "virgin" uterus. You have the best chances of VBAC if you have at least 18 months btwn deliveries, and the risk is only slightly higher.

  • I'm an OB in Kansas City.  I practice with one other doc and 6 midwives.  We have a HUGE group of patients who come to us specifically for VBAC.  We love a good trial of labor!  With this, I have delivered thousands of babies and more VBACs than any other doc I know.  I have personally had ONE patient rupture her uterus and she was attempting to VBAC after 2 previous cesarean deliveries.  I do recall hearing about a rupture during my residency but it never happened in my 4 years there and that is witnessing/having knowledge of over 12,000 deliveries and 1500 or so VBACs.  So...it's rare.  And IF you do rupture your uterus, and you're in a good hospital, you and baby will most likely be fine--the delivery may be a little hectic but we are trained to handle these situations and there are usually rules that require the physician be close by in case of an emergency. Find a good, open minded doc or midwife, a safe hospital and VBAC!!!!!!
