To continue the mooshy stream:

How did you meet and/or start dating?  Any cute stories?

PS: I know this poll has been done before but it feels appropriate for today and I cannot get enough of this love talk. (FreshStart started it!) Blame it on the hormones!

  • It was all very scandalous. He was my high school boyfriend's best friend. We were friends for a long time before I realized he had feelings for me (and that I felt the same way).

  • i was a hoochie, Drama director of our spring musical, and he was there fixing our sound system.

First interactions i was yelling the F-bomb in the teachers office because i had lost something, and he says " Thats no way for a lady to talk" i let him know "PSsh. I am no LADY"

then later he was saudering on some equipment and eating a carmel apple pop, i told him they were my fave, and he offered the one he was eating. I took that sucker and popped it right in my mouth. (HOOOCHIE!!!)

By the end of the day, i had followed him into the mens room, and asked " So you going to kiss me or what?" he asked if he could wash his hands first.

  • he was my online friend (back in the world of mushes) and I was in a crappy situation, he flew me to Sweden, I stayed the whole of my visa and that was that. we started flying back and forth and decided to get married when he got hassled at logan airport :p

I then overstayed my visa while doing paper work and stuff.

this is after my stint in the UK where I worked illegally.

  • We met at my big sister's a Halloween party.  I was 19 and going to another college 2 hours North of where DH was in grad school.  I was dressed as Michelle from Romy and Michelles highschool reunion.  I saw him come in the back gate.  I had never been so struck by someone before.  I just thought he was to-die-for gorgeous!  So I immediatly quit chatting with the rock-star (self-proclaimed) from Flaggstaff and approached Henry.  I asked him if he knew that I invented post-its.  Soon we were necking in the hall.  At the end of the night when he asked me for my number, I patted his cheek and said, "You're sweet but no thanks." .  The next day I told my friends that Henry was gorgeous but dumber than a box of rocks and not nearly as funny as I am (turns out he is an actual genuis and super funny to boot!).  2 weeks later I was with the same group of people at a club in Phoenix and  he happened to be there.  He approached me and said, "Aren't you even going to say hi?" And I was so nervous because of the awful way I'd rejected him that I started babbleing incessently about the movie Dirty Harry.  He just laughed and called me obscure.  We stayed up until 8 am talking and laughing.  He called me 2 days later and we've been laughing together ever since!

  • My best friend, who was at the time was and still is married to a wonderful guy, asked me if she could play matchmaker.  I agreed since I wasn't having much luck in finding the right guy.  She seriously approached it as a job!  Had a list of questions to ask guys she knew/met/her DH knew in order to "interview" them to see if they would be good candidates.  It was actually pretty funny!  She would go up to guys at our school and start interviewing them!  One day, she called me up and said "I just met the man you are going to marry!"  I was at work at the time and couldn't chat, so I just told her to give the guy my contact info and the rest is history!
  • We met in a bar (we had a mutual friend).

He and his friends got in a fight with some other guys in the parking lot.

    Cops broke it up.

    He was hurt.

I called him the next day to see if he was ok (actually, I paged him because he only gave me his pager number.  Yes, a pager.)

We went on a date and the rest is history.

  • We were at a NYE party for the Millenium (LOL!) He was actually the ex-bf of my close friend who was hosting the party, I got drunk, we chatted and hooked up but then a bunch of people left for another party, he was part of that group.  I figured I'd probably never see him again and went on with life.

The next weekend we were both at another party, and talked, ended up hanging out most of the party and started dating a week or so later.

  • We met while working at Michaels. He was the receiving manager and I was the head cashier. I was the other woman for a while...he had a girlfriend. I got sick of being the other woman, so told him I was done, it was over. FF a few months, sent me flowers and said that he wanted to be with me, I told him no that I was seeing someone (I wasn't). But met someone a month later, we were together for 2 years. After we broke up, I called DH back, thinking he could be a rebound. I wasn't ready. FF 2 years later, and he called out of the blue. We talked on the phone for a month prior to seeing each other again, getting to know each other again. We had lunch, and the rest is history. He moved in 3 months later, we were married 2 years later.
  • at Crogan's WC one st. patrick's day .. i was there only b/c i knew the bouncer and could get in w/out having to 1- pay the cover fee and 2- skip waiting in the line that wrapped around the block. if i had to either pay or wait, i would have skipped it and never met h.

  • love that you paged him R!! LOL

we met at a mutal friends birthday party. Actually it was his roomate that i had sorta "dated".. anyway, we met up the next weekend and I put my number in his phone. We hung out as friends for about a month. One night he walked me to my car and I decided it was time to make my move. So I kissed him, and he said "wow that was ballsy" I turned around and left, very very confused. The next time we hung out, it was not just as friends. We moved in 4 months later.

  • at hallmark the day after turkey day 1996. I was working he came in with his cousin. Asked for my number for his cousin but it was for him ( I wanted to talk to him) He paged me 3 weeks later and we started dating.
  • on craigslist after i answered his joke ad that was written as a bet that he had with his female work mate.  he said he wasn't going to email me but felt bad b/c i had sent him such a nice message.  the only other lady that replied was some 60 year old hippie astrology lady.  :)
  • I had a long term boyfriend, I was not happy and told him I was going to start seeing other people.  My girlfriend was dating one of his friends.  She was incited to go to his birthday party, asked me if I wanted to tag along with a few other people.  We met that night, and hung out, he had a girl with him.

We kept running into each other each time I hung out with my girlfriend, talking in a bunch more.  I finally asked for his number one night and we set a date and have been together ever since.  I broke up with the boyfriend a bit after our first date.

  • We met Junior year of High School and were friends for4 years before we started dating. When we were 20, we wet to a show together in the city. He had a long distance girlfriend at the time. As we were driving back over the bridge we were talking about what we wanted out of life. That was when I decided I was going to marry him.

I did not break him ans GF up. In fact he had a rebound (blech) after her. Eventually he succumbed to my charms ;)

  • We were both at Berkeley. I was an undergrad and he was in law school. One day I got some spammy email about signing up for yahoo personals and feeling bored I clicked on it. I thought I might get a kick out of making a profile and seeing what kind of weirdos were out there so I did. I got a few "hey you're hot" responses and was getting ready to take my profile down a few days later when I got a personal message from DH. He just introduced himself and said he'd love to talk. No picture, but at the end of the message he included his school email. I really still can't explain it but I just felt compelled to answer him. Like I had to. It was really lucky that he included his real email because otherwise I would have had to actually sign up for yahoo personals and that cost money, which I didn't have.

Anyway, we emailed back and forth all day (the day before Valentine's) and that was pretty much it for both of us. On Valentine's day we spoke on the phone for the first time and OMG I remember how sexy his voice was. lol, I could have talked to him all night. We ended up going on our first date a few days later (6 hours) and pretty much haven't been apart since. We just knew. We were really crazy kids.

It's nice to think about that time. Sometimes having been married for 6 years and having a baby you kind of forget how it all started and what it felt like. It's nice to get mushy.

  • I didn't respond in the other post, but we met on Yahoo personals. Embarrassed He had just started teaching and stopped going out/working in restaurants and I was working in an office with mostly women and didn't like going out so personals it was.

One of our first phone conversations he said he had just gotten back from walking his dog...then the convo went like this:

Me: I have a dog too!
    H: I have a boxer mix
Me: I have a boxer mix!
H: My dog's name is Barley
Me: My dog's name is Bailey!

I knew I would love him right then and there...

  • My good friend at work, Ed would talk about this friend of his from college all the time, and in the most positive ways.  Ed had a garage sale one weekend, and his friend (T) was visiting that same weekend.  So, we met at that garage sale.  Neither of us thought anything of it at the time...

Then, a few weeks later, we met up as a group (Ed, me, T, and another friend) and T started actually talking with me.  His conversation starter (we were in a bar this time, mind you) was, "so...what kind of calculator do you use?" (we're both engineers).  It legitimately became a fascinating and playfully joking conversation about TI versus HP calculators. Geeked Ed could hear us talking about calculators and basically never stopped from that moment forward telling each of us separately that we were a seriously perfect match.  I was smitten from that night on, but it took awhile to convince T that the 1.5 hour driving distance between us wasn't a good enough reason to avoid giving dating a chance.  I sent him an email after several months had passed and he was still on my mind - subject line: Even though you use an HP... email content: I still think we have enough in common to warrant seeing each other again.  He finally called me after that Wink

After our first date, we were inseparable.  That garage sale was 5 years ago next month.

And all these lovey stories are totally making my day!! Smile

  • Online, but as teens and not through personals :)  We were 15 and one of us found the other on ICQ random chat, we don't remember who!  At any rate we were friends at opposite ends of the state for years throughout other gfs, bfs, etc - we even went to the same church camp mid state on different weeks.  When we were 19 or so we both became more interested in each other and became really close friends.  Finally met and started officially dating right after my 20th b-day.  But I decided to go ahead with my plans to move to NYC and broke up with him right before school started.  Don't know why but he forgave me and we stayed close friends while I had a wild whirlwind of a year.  Toward the end I had an epiphany of a sorts because while my group and I were going out nightly I was struck that I was done with the bar scene because no one I met was as right for me as DH.  So, I moved across the country again but instead of moving home to SoCal I moved to NorCal.  We were engaged 9 months later, married a year after that and our 7 year anniversary is coming up!

  • We met at my bff's (bff at the time) sister's HS graduation party.

I was supposed to stay away from him. He was instructed to seduce me (long story). In any case, we saw each other before my BFF told me to stay away. Told her too late and chatted with the eventual hubs the rest of the night.

We've been "together" ever since...17 years and counting.

How funny!  My DH has a dog named Barley, too!

One of our first e-mails to each other was him telling me he had a dog and season tickets to football and hockey.  My response was to ask the ever important questions of what kind of dog and which football team.

the dog is a chesapeake retriever named Barley and the football team was the Raiders (yuck!).  heh.

  • He posted a personal ad on Craigslist.  I answered.  We talked on the phone.  Ended up he lived 5 houses away on the same street.  I invited him up for a booty call one night...kicked him out before the deed was done...but decided to keep him around long term.
  • When I was 19 or 20, I worked at Oakridge Mall in San Jose. I would take the freeway home and to get to the onramp, I would have to pass these houses alongside the road to said freeway. On the corner, there was a house with a really hot 1969 purple GTO with a black vinyl roof. I would say "I will own/drive that car one day" and anyone I drove with when I said that said "yeah right". I thought about making an offer for the car, but never did. Around Christmas 2004, I noticed the car wasn't there anymore which I was really bummed about.

About 2 months later, I was on Yahoo Personals and a guy sent me an "ice breaker", to which I replied and looked at his profile with no picture of him, which was a huge no-no to me. But I ended up messaging him back anyways after reading about him and seeing that we both had similar interests, including movies and that he owned two muscle cars - a purple 1969 GTO and a red 1970 Nova. It was only when we were talking about how he came to own over 500 DVDs and he said "I used to live across the street from Oakridge Mall" did I put two and two together. 2 weeks later, he took me out for my first date ever. 6 years later, we've been married for almost 4 years, have a one-month old daughter, and I DID end up owning/driving that hot car. We ended up selling it though, and I'm kind of glad because if we had to take it to Richmond with us, it would probably have gotten stolen already.

  • We both worked at Raging Waters and we met his first summer there but I was dating someone so I didn't think much of it. The next summer comes around and I was still dating the same person but he had been deployed for a while and was starting to turn into a different person (as expected). Dh and I started flirting, me as his boss (oops... That's a no no), and I realized that I definitely was not happy and I broke it off with the bf and started dating dh. Dh is OCD so we set our anniversary date for the next date that was a multiple of 5 which ended up being July 20th. I didn't realize it at the time because it was 2 years later, but that is also the anniversary of the passing of my grandfather who was killed by a drunk driver. I wouldn't have chosen that anniversary had I thought about it, but it's nice having a good memory on that day especially since we started dating, got engaged, and got married on that day.

  • We met online. I did a custom search and DH popped up. I messaged him. We starting emailing, chatting, phone dates and then met in person. We were living  about 80 miles apart. Dated for over 3 years long distance before getting married.

  • I was living in Newport Beach.  We have a huge 4th of July party every year.  Bff's boyfriend said he was bringing two friends from his home town and I was to "take care of them."  Only one showed up.  I was sitting on my couch.  He chatted it up with me for about an hour.  I was drunk, spilled a huge mixed drink on him and told him to act like nothing happened because I knew my roommate would freak out.  I got up and went to the bathroom, came back and my roommate was chatting it up with him.  No biggie.

Went to a bar.  Ended up talking with him and hanging out a bit longer.  Said I was going home to take a nap before the next bar, he said he would join me.  Made out a bit. Saw fireworks. He went to the next bar, came back and spent the night.  Kept coming back every day that weekend.

I may or may not have been a hussy.

Aaaaand, why I adore Mrs. C so much. We're kindred spirits.

We met in a bar. We had met briefly before, we had mutual friends. Also, I was um, "dating" one of his close friends. His friend and I "broke up" on Thursday, I went to the bar on Saturday, he was there, we have been together ever since. His friend was in our wedding.

  • We met through eharmony.com...emailed for a few days, talked on the phone a few more days, then met on a Thursday for dinner.  We had dinner and went to a movie on Friday night.  Then I went to his house Saturday night (he cooked)...we were pretty much inseparable from that point on.  It was just a few weeks before Christmas so we both had 2 weeks of vacation.  I was at his house late one night and he told me he had a present for me...turns out it was pajamas...and I may or may not have been a hussy as well. ;-)

  • Though we both lived in San Jose, we met in Phoenix while we were both visiting his sister; he was there to watch the baseball spring training, I was there with another friend to celebrate St Patties day :-) We all ended up going out that night - I kept trying to get him drunk to no avail. We ended up staying up till 5am talking. He was on the tail end of a relationship. We started out as friends going hiking & walking. When he said he "liked" me, I made him move out of his ex-GF house (yes, they were already broken up :-P) before I would date him. Once he got his own place things moved pretty quickly... Here we are only 4 1/2 years later and we're married, have a house & a kid with another one on the way :-P

  • We met online after my match.com membership expired.  They allowed me "one last search" to try to get me to sign up again, and he showed up even though I had limited parameters to 100 miles away, and he was about 125, and he was way at the top of my age range (11 yrs older).  When I first saw his picture, I thought it was someone I went to elementary school with, so I clicked to see if it was him, at which point I realized it couldn't be due to his age... but once I read more I was hooked :)  I had to pay for another month just to get in touch with him.  I never would have clicked on him, due to both the age and distance, if I hadn't thought he was this old friend of mine (who, incidentally, I hadn't talked to since sixth grade but is now an FB friend).  Anyway, we met after a week or two and that was it!
  • I answered his Craigslist personal ad "Lovesick Librarian." The title said a lot about him, didn't know that then but I'm glad I replied. We emailed a few times and talked on the phone every night for about two weeks before we went on our first date.  In between that time his sister became engaged, he emailed me about the engagement and how excited he was for her. Such a sweetheart to say the least. He has always been a sentimental, sensitive, guy.

At that time, I had many male friends with benefits. After speaking to Mitch one night on the phone I ended those relationships and didn't push getting physical with him. We had a great 4th of July! ;)

  • We met freshman year in college thru mutual friends. I like to say that he stood me up because we were all supposed to meet to go to dinner at the mess hall and no one showed. He felt bad...we kept talking and hanging out after that. Another funny, our friends locked us in their dorm room to speed along the hooking up...yea it didn't quite happen according to their plan. ;)
