Vets- please tell me if I am crazy

Hey Ladies,

I typically don't post new threads on your board (just offer support here), but I would really like your input.

As you can see in my siggy IUI worked for us once. We can't afford another IVF cycle right now, but I have enough money in my HSA to do 3 IUI cycles.

I switched RE's before IVF#1, and was not happy with the new RE. Over the last week I have talked to my original RE (through the RN of course) about what our next step should be I asked about possibly trying IUI again.

Just got the call from the RN and she said RE agrees that an IUI could work. It would probably take 3 months for us to save enough to do another IVF cycle and I only ended up with 6 retrieved eggs, 4 mature and 3 fertilized embryos with this last cycle.

Do you think I am crazy for taking a "step backwards"? I am a little torn, I would like to get started asap, but not sure if I am making the right choice.

I don't think its crazy. I have seen others do it.

IF defies logic sometimes, so even though it isn't logical to take a step back, it might work!

I would do the IUIs and continue saving for IVF.

No, I don't.

Because if we ever do a treatment cycle again we'd be going back to IUIs.

I did get pregnant from an IUI last October (c/p) and didn't get pregnant from our IVF cycle. Our RE recommended that we try IUIs again because a) I did get pregnant once b) my odds of success with IVF are fairly low c) DH and I aren't comfortable spending $10k+ on an IVF cycle with 30% odds of success.

I will say...it *sounds* crazy just in general..but there are reasons people to do it and when it is all spelled out, it makes sense. And I have seen people on these boards find success through IUIs when they didn't through IVF.

Thank you so much ladies!!! I feel like a huge knot just untied in my stomach! This is exactly what I needed to hear. I have a temporary job lined up for the end of the year which should allow us to try IVF again in January of 2012 if these IUI's don't work.

You all just made me feel so much better about this decision!! Thank you!!!

I would definitely do it and I don't think it sounds crazy at all. In fact, DH and I are thinking of going that route after 2 failed IVF's.

Thank you Nola! I just talked to the RN and once cycle day 1 arrives I will start bcp and stay on them for at least two weeks. So IUI #3 should be somewhere around the beginning of June

I don't think it is crazy at all either! My second RE said that he would have pushed to continue doing at least one or two more IUI cycles before we moved to IVF in the first place. After our second IVF failed if I had not gotten pregnant we may have gone back to doing just clomid plus a trigger since IVF and me just didn't work well together at all.

I've never done an IUI. I've had two failed IVF cycles and am about to go through cycle 3. If IVF #3 doesn't work, we may go back and do a couple IUIs (if my tubes are clear or can be cleared by a procedure the RE wants to do). When I got my second opinion from a different RE, he thought it might work for us assuming my tubes were clear.

I don't think it sounds crazy...I would go back to IUI if we didn't have such bad MFI. It did work for you so there is no reason to assume it couldn't again.
