Daycare in Irvine that accepts cloth diapers?

Hi everyone, I plan to cloth diaper my baby (due in late July). I've researched lots of daycares in Irvine, but have yet to find one that accepts cloth diapers. If you know of one, I would really appreciate the information. It would be especially great to find one close to UC-Irvine, where I work. Thanks so much!

Re: Daycare in Irvine that accepts cloth diapers?

  • I ran into the same problem when I was looking and was told that they cannot do cloth diapers due to some licensing regulation. Not sure how true it is..maybe I was being fed a line. I ended up not going the CD route.

Maybe you could contact some cloth diaper stores like Granola Babies in Costa Mesa or Belly Sprout in Fullerton to see if they know of any day care providers that will accept cloth diapers.

  • We toured a bunch of different daycares, and none had a problem with cloth.  Kindercare, Tutor Time, one at a church etc.

We use Bum Genius diapers, they are super easy to use... so maybe that's why everyone was cool with it?  I also brought the diapers with me when we toured and showed it to them.  A lot of people think old school, (pre-folds with pins) when they hear cloth diapers and get freaked out by it.  They have no idea that there is a whole new line of diapers out there.

  • We don't live in Irvine, but all of the daycares we visited accepted cloth diapers.  None had had babies in cloth diapers before, but we showed them our Bum Genius diapers and since they're as easy as disposables for the provider to use, they were fine with it.  We did have to supply a Diaper Genie for her diapers, which used many, many refills.  I was at Granola Babies a few months ago for training pants and was told that there is a new Diaper Genie-type thing that accepts washable liners.  Maybe the daycares just need some more information, because it's definitely not a licensing issue.
