Just waiting to hear from the nurse to schedule surgery for tubes

Evan saw the ENT and he said that yes, after 7 ear infections within 3 1/2 months tubes are a good option for him. We are just waiting to hear from the nurse to schedule the surgery. She will also check with our insurance and let us know what we will owe.

I tried researching the average cost of the surgery and saw anything from $1700 to $6500. I can't believe it would cost $6500 for out patient surgery that lasts about 15 minutes. I'm hoping this isn't the case.

Oh, and I was happy the ENT told us ear plugs wouldn't be needed. Whew!

  • $6500??? That sounds outrageous. Hopefully, it won't be that much.

    Good luck with the surgery.

  • Obviously it depends on your insurance, but I think we spent about $1200 for Cooper.

Call the ENT and ask them what the cost will be.  Ours told us to call the anesthesiologist and the hospital so I had a good idea in my head what we'd spend total.  We also ended up overpaying the ENT because of some confusion, but we got it refunded and worked out.  Good thing is, we met our deductable for the year on Jan 7th.  :-)

This is about what I was thinking it would cost. Our insurance plan year runs until June, so this is lucky timing. The scheduling nurse should have already reviewed everything with our insurance company and be able to provide a breakdown of the costs. I was just eager to get an estimate before we get to talk to her.

LOL, at least you don't have to worry about your deductible for the rest of the year.
